Hey folks, well..... yesterday was the day! In February I found a 91Turbo in Japan via RSC Motors in Vancouver BC. I live in Victoria BC so just a few hours (including ferry) away. Yesterday I took the 30 minutes float plane ride (one of the best ways to travel btw!) from downtown Victoria to Vancouver and Ray at RSC picked me up in the car, all ready to go. A few details:
99,000kms
PTS Linen Metallic (paint code W5) over black leather [edit I corrected the colour name and added code]
B&B exhaust
RUF wheels (brand new - we replaced the previous aftermarket rims) and new Michelin tires. I know this might be sacrilegious to some of you. It was a toss up between these and Speedlines but I wanted something a bit different.
Definitely a drivers car (not a garage queen) which is perfect since I'm going to drive it, but I was pleasantly surprised with the condition.
Given today's pricing of Turbos I think I got a solid deal.
I have a ton to learn and I'm sure I'll be leaning on the folks here, and I hope over time I can contribute back.
Congrats das76, that is a very unique color 964 turbo
thanks. I have only found one other Turbo in this colour by doing Google searches. I tried to use Rennbow but no luck at all. I found the colour listed but nothing happens when I click it. They also list it as 4/5 on the rare scale. I’ve found quite a few C2’s and other Pcars on Google searches
Rennbow page came up when I got to Linen Grey. It shows 5 cans, which you are right is very rare (PCA says "5 cans is the rarest of the rare"). It also shows Porsche only ever painted that color in 1990, and again between 2005 & 2007.
You should definitely post a picture of your car in that Rennbow Gallery. There are only 3 pictures posted so far, and one of the cars looks to be from Japan.
again, very cool that you found & bought this car!
@bweSteve thanks. There is Linen Grey and Linen Grey Metallic. Mine is metallic. when I click on the car logo on Rennbow after searching ‘Linen Grey’ with that colour nothing happens. Which is surprising since online I’ve found cars in that colour. Paint code is W5
Well….. one small hiccup now. I badly sprained my ankle mountain biking yesterday so I’m on crutches and an air cast for a few weeks. Anyone want to come and chauffeur me around ? Haha
i guess this gives me the time to start reading the 964 Companions book
Good idea to read up. Lots to consume. Rennlist threads in this 964 Turbo subforum are good too.
Funny that you just imported yours, as a new {local} friend to me also just imported one (midnight blue metallic), and is brand new to this variant. His was ordered with European Delivery from a customer in Japan, so it's all German LHD etc.
Seems like a bunch of these cars are now starting to land on NA {North American} shores!
Your car looks great, and congratulations. I like the wheels as well.
(FWIW: I have watched Cars go back & forth to Japan, NA, and to Europe based on currency. Currently Yen is falling, and Dollar is strong... Automatic ~25% boost if you are buying in dollars.)
Congrats! I have a 92 in Polar Silver and love it. Can you provide the details on the wheels - sizes, tires specs? Always liked these.
@ianbsears these are the wheels: https://shop.ruf-automobile.de/en/co...ne-reifen-18-2. That online price includes the VAT which you wouldn't pay if you are not in EU. They aren't as expensive as some people think. Some people on BaT have been paying stupid prices for them. No idea why. I got them from a local RUF dealer so i didn't need to worry about shipping them/duty etc.
we put 7mm front and 15mm rear spacers. (the wheel kit comes with 7mm spacers for the rear)
I went with Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tires. I'm in the pacific northwest, so I can drive year round. I don't plan on driving in the rain (or much in the rain), but even on winter days it can be nice here and still above freezing. Lots of folks on RL here don't get to drive in the winter so they go with summer only tires. I'm not at the level of driving where i can tell the difference between one tire and the next, to be honest, and probably wont ever get there.
The only thing I don't love 100% is that the stretch on the front tire is more than the back tire. I'm guessing that's because the fronts are 8.5" wide vs 8 like on other rims" ? But maybe a different brand would fit differently? I'll try and send you some pics in the next few days if you'd like. I'm currently freshly on crutches so a bit immobile at the moment.
