As I mentioned in my posts above, I did notice less stretch with the new PS4S (but keep in mind, I am running the 285).
If you think your Sumitomo's are "perfect" for you now,... then yes, the difference in side buldge between the two tires, in your case, will probably not be exactly to your liking.
The section width differences (.2" between the two), and especially the tread width difference (.6" between the two),... will probably make enough of difference to you.
Is your 10.5" rear rim a ET59? ... If so, and you want that particular PS4S to stretch more,... than maybe an 11" rim would do that for you. But then you'll need a VERY specific offset so the inside of your rear tire does not rub the trailing arm.
With my setup (as I described above), the inside of my 285/30/18 comes very close to my trailing arm (like within 1/4"),... which is plenty close enough for me, given the little amount of "roll" the tires will experience when under heavy cornering loads. Plus, as I said, these new PS4S tires are sooooo much bigger build than any other 285 I have ever seen on the market. It is why I am in the 285 (which looks dang close to the size of my 305/30/19's on my blue car).
Hope that helps.
The fronts are 8x18 ET52, rears are 10.5 x18 ET54 which I believed are the correct offsets for the 964 turbos. Seems like the ET's are all over the place. I'm no were near the trailing arms with this setup, I used a straight edge on the wheel/tire to the rear quarter flare and it's nearly flush maybe 3mm inwards. I really want the PS4S's for the steering feel that I hear so much about, but I'm afraid that they will look bulky or square, even the 285/'30s thread width is 11", I'm not a fan of a square looking set up. I guess I could order them from my local tire dealer in a couple of different sizes and have them mount them and if not happy I go back to a new set of HTR-Z-5 which I know look perfect. If they agree to it, that's a big IF. I'll post better pic's of what I have now, soon
you are right, even the 285/30 look square on my 10.5" width rim. At least to me they look more square than my previous 285/30's which had no where near the tread & section widths of these new PS4S.
But I think your bigger issue is the ET54, with only 3mm of clearance to the fender lip. That tells me that even if you go to the 285 (never mind the 295), it is probably going to rub under full compression. That is why I went with the ET59.
Hey Helio,.... Did you ever decide whether to go with 295's on your 10.5" rear ET54's?? ... There are several of us who would be interested in seeing final pics of your decision.
Guys, BBS motorsport 8x18 and 10x18 need your recommendation on tires please.
225x40r18 and 265x35r18 or 285x30r8?
Both rears are different diameter vs oem 255/40r17.
265 is bigger and 285 is smaller.
265 is available with homologation - Michelin PS2 which is old style.
285 is available without homologation but in new design so Michelin PS4 or PS 5.
There's almost nothing in it, between those two sizes; the 265/35x18 is around 1% bigger than the standard 255 17" sizes (9 less rotations per mile) and the 285/30x18 about 1% smaller (10 more rotations per mile).
unfortunately it looks like the rear rim is sticking out too much, I ordered a 2.0 inch edge instead of 2.5 inch.
after installation, the rim will be 9.5 inches wide
Did you ever consider replacing your lift motors and winding springs with the type that are close coupled to the garage doors? It would free up a lot of overhead space for you.
