Interesting call on the Bridgestones... I think they may have been factory on some of the 993s? Think I've narrowed it down to Pilot Sports or the Bridgestones. It's great to see so many people that know about tires- that's because we DRIVE our cars and don't let them sit and rot!
I ran through two sets of Super Sports in 225/40/18 (F) and 285/35/18 (R). Great tire. Now I'm running Pilot Sport 4S. Also great, of course.
I may be in the minority but the 285/30 tires just look to thin around the rim for me - I prefer a little more sidewall. So the 285/35 works great for me. And I went to 235/40 upfront to keep things looking balanced. Very happy with that sizing.

I have the PS4S's on my C2 after having PSS's on the car prior to that. I was running stock 94 turbo sized rims and tires so 225/265 on 8's and 10's. I found the S4S's to be one of the best tires I have driven on for the street. Unfortunately IMO a rolling radius of 25.9" is too tall for these cars so I will find an alternative.

No rake issues as the actual diameters between front and rear are fairly close.

Actually the turbo S came with standard 94 turbo wheel and tire sizes. So they ran a 225 up front it was the 3.8 RS that ran a 235 on a 9" wheel.
When the PS2 first came out it was a great tire and reasonably priced. I ran 235/295's for a number of years but when the 295's started at >$500 each for the 295's I went back to 225/285's. The PS4S is miles beyond the PS2's in every way. I like the soft sidewall and limited noise of the Michelin's most other tires I find to be too loud.
Those do look interesting but currently not available and I need tires soon. I was considering the Conti extreme sports as most I know how have them like the tire. But I am open to others suggestions.

I’d be curious how you found the rolling radius too high. I’ve put over 40,000 miles on the car running 285/35 and can assure you it works just fine.
PS2 are here: 295/30 and 225/40; calipers are 100% restored to new. Awaiting for Mr. Dorociak to ship back my SpeedLines in a few weeks!
OT: I have had 5 months to crawl under the car and I have discovered seepage around the front right fender oil cooler. What would be the guess for the dripping? Just tighten the cooler lines? Any advice...
I’d be curious how you found the rolling radius too high. I’ve put over 40,000 miles on the car running 285/35 and can assure you it works just fine.

You can run the tires. Changing the rolling radius will impact your final drive speeds, introduce error in the speedo showing a lower speed than you are traveling and usually a larger dia tire adds unwanted unsprung weight. I also found they can get a bit squirmy under hard braking.
I believe the car came new with Yokohama’s. Anybody still running them?
Your car could indeed have come with Yokohama's when new. Mine did not (mine came with Bridgestone & is on my COA).
Over the years plenty of guys have confirmed that Porsche was using several different manufacturers for their tires back then. I've had National PCA Judges tell me the same as well.

This is the most recent tire thread that I found. I'm shopping new tires all around for my 96 C4S. Street driving, no tracking. No cold weather or wet. PSS 10. Euro height. Sumi HTR Z5 have gotten many positive reviews. For $600 for 4 compared to Michelins for $1450 is pretty compelling to give them a try. The rears don't last long on my car, so if I hate them they'll be gone in a year anyway.
Has anyone had a really bad Sumi HTR experience? Or good?
I'm in the same timing ... as I need new rubber too.
My 3.3 car came originally with Bridgestone (on my COA), and I've been running the Potenza Pole Position S-04's for the last 10+ years, and I like them.
I'm running '94 3.6 sized rims, and my sizing is:
Rear: 285/30 ZR18
Front: 225/40 ZR18
... and as much as I'd like to switch to the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (since I am currently running the Pilot Sport Cup 2's on my 997.2 GT3, and want to switch to the 4S),... but unfortunately Michelin is not making those 4S in the sizes I run on my 964 Turbo. Oh well.
So I am currently planning on still running the S-04's. I've achieved good life out of them (mileage) and they do well for the degree of pushing the car hard in the twisties. I don't push that car as hard as I do the GT3,... but I take it to where I still feel safe, but almost on the edge (although my wife seems to get the 964T a little more sidewayz than I do,... so maybe that's not the best tire for her :-)
Hope that helps ... even if just for a little comparative thinking

Steve, I just found PS4 at discount but I’m running 225-40-18 F and 275-35-18 R. They weren’t available for the longest and I was about to get the S04’s and they popped up. Don’t have the car back yet to give a seat of the pants review, but hope to soon.
Interesting that Tire Rack NOW has the new Bridgestone Potenza SPORT listed on their website, and says it is "new" ... so they must soon be available here in the US, ... but they also do not yet have a price listed.
I also see that the Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position is no longer available in the 285-30R18 size that I have been running (which has a rolling height diameter of 25.1"and a Section Width of 11.5" ... which is nice and wide, AND the overall height matches my front size 225/40R18)
So for the Rears, and looking at the ONLY sizes & models available from these two brands (Bridgestone & Michelin)... here is the list I am considering:
Potenza SPORT is offered in a 275-35R18 that has a rolling height of 25.6", and a section width of 11"
Potenza S-04 Pole Position in a 285-35R18 that has a rolling height of 25.9", and a section width of 11.4"
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S seems to come in BOTH the 275/35 and 285/35 (but neither in a 30 width):
Michelin PS4S in a 275/35R18 has a rolling height diameter of 25.6" , and a section width of 10.9"
Michelin PS4S in a 285/35R18 has a rolling height diameter of 25.9" , and a section width of 11.4"

I'd like to keep my rears as wide as possible,... but seems I am now limited to only the 35's.
Also now seems the S-04's are out of the question for me too, as I agree with Cobalt that the 25.9" height is too tall for me.
Keep in mind that our fronts, when running the 225/40R18, have a height diameter of 25.1".
Nice data Steve. I’m ruining slight negative stance to the front so the set up works well for me. Of course now realizing my Bilstiens are @18 yrs old and likely are needing “freshening”. Looking forward to getting the car back😎
