Default Need suggestions

Ok I got my 45k mile service done, and come to find out i need new tires and the car can't be inspected.

My fiance and I are saving for a house right now and lets just say that 1200 dollars for 45k mile service and then 1000 dollars for tires isn't the best of news.

Any suggestions on cheap tires that don't suck? I dont do any track of autocross just good street tires.

ALso any estimate on how cheap I could replace all 4 tires?

Ian,
No offense but one thing that i have learned over the years is that you should not cut corners on tires on any car let alone a performance car.Would you not be able to wait few months for the right tires.Trust me cheaper tires would be lot noisier, probably not as grippier and could have traction issues too.

Ian,

Tire rack has Bridgestone S02's and S03's for about the same price $730.00 for all four. You would have to pay shipping mounting and balancing. I don't think you are going to be able to get tires for much less without sacrificing control and safety. For a couple of hundred $$ I would think you would be better off with the better tires.

A turbo with crappy tires is like skating on thin ice.

Isn't there a local tire shop around you that can get you the package deal for about the same price.

Straight6 is offering a complete set of alloys and tires on another thread. I know this is going in the wrong direction but you get a perfect second set of rims in the process.

One other possibility is looking at rennlist & PCA classifieds sometimes their are people trying to sell used tires. However I would not use tires that are more than 6 years old.

Hi Ian,

I agree that good tires are better. But like you, I am not in good financial situation with a newly purchased house and all.

I've been using Yokohama ES100 tires in stock sizes for about 6 months now and I am very happy with it.

Go to tirerack.com and do a search on this model and read on the feebacks. For the money, these are great tires. I have no complaints, and I don't drive that aggressively. So, these tires are fine for me.

It cost me a total $430 for all 4 including mounting and life time balancing at a local America tire company. They will match tirerack's prices + shipping.

Regards,

Sonny

Thanks guys.

I am gonna shop around on rennlist, ebay and see what I can get for a wheel+tire package. I've always wanted to have a set of black wheels.
If that doesn't work I think I am going to get those Yokohama ES100's.

430 dollars is a lot better then 800-900. I'm sure that will fly a lot better with my other half.

Dear Ian,
If you purchase 2nd hand tyres (which I strongly do not recommend) please ensure you check their age and how they were stored. The tyres may look like they have lots of tread but they may also be as hard as nails and with tyres like these you might as well run slicks in the snow.
Ciao,
Adrian

I ordered Yokohama AVS Sports. Just 2 rear tires, the fronts are ok not great but not awful.

Called up my local NTB and asked to price match tire rack and they did.

Total was 161 per tire! they were on special at tirerack. So I think I got a pretty good deal.

Good job Ian,

I am glad that you were able to get good price. It is important that we're able to save money so we could put them into mods, :-).

Regards,

Sonny

I prefer my Yokohama AVS sport compared to the Bridgestone SO2. The AVS has more grip.

I have to admit that I love the S02's on the turbo, albeit a bit noisy. My other Porsches I used the Yokos on and I loved the tire. Very good street tire good in both wet and dry.

I have no comparison on this car but I am sure the Yokos will do just fine.

Ian, for what its worth, I put a cat bypass on my car and barely noticed a sound difference. Maybe I'm just deaf already?

I have B&B headers and a Techart muffler with 4" tips, no cats. The car has a low bass rumble at idle and low speed ie around the neighbors! Once you get on the road and apply some right foot she comes alive and wails like a banshee!!!!......gotta luv it!
