Default 964 Turbo market

Like many cars I have seen the inventory of nice no-stories 964 Turbos go down to almost nothing. I may put mine up for sale and not sure where the market is for a 53k mile, extremely original car in Slate Grey. I love the car but I also like working on them and I have my eye on a new project which is why this is coming up. I can always ask whatever I want but just trying to see if anyone knows of any that have sold recently.

I think you may have posted this in the wrong section, but if want a few data points check out BaT.

That's useful data, I suppose they do that for every make/model.

Damn! I thought was in 964T market but BaT is not that useful for this market. They sold 1 car since the pandemic subsided a bit and the others are all well below current market values. Thanks very much though.

Mine doesnt have the sunroof, its a swiss spec car, I was told by Porsche that approximately only 10% of the 965 came without the sunroof. I bought my car in 2007 and looked at several 965 at that time, I passed on a nice 3,6 for 10k€ more which had the sunroof and also all other 3.3 965 had it so I chose the only car that didnt have it, it was the main criteria for me because of the extra height in the cockpit it comes with, plus the cleaner look. If I had a timemachine now I would certainly still choose the 5 figure 3.6t I also looked at. Well well...

This snow is pissing me off. I want to drive! Lol.

That said, the kids love sledding.
At least it's not single digits any more.

finding that fine line between valuating your car as a "collector" (by marketing with things like rare no-sunroof, or color, etc etc), verses having some miles (yet at the same time having spent decades improving, fixing, and truly sorting your car) and calling it for what it is (which imo is the most iconic 911 shape ever), mixed with the buyers {& all of our} desire to DRIVE the thing ... well, that's not such an easy thing to do.

Having said all that,... 53k miles, Slate Grey, and assuming fully sorted .... & if you were to do a auction (which in this day&age seems to get the most exposure in the shortest amount of time), I would guess between $240k & $260k.

When I see some of the 3.3 turbos (the few that are special colors) that have sat on the market (Indy dealers) and their crazy asking prices,... I don't think any of those can really be used as a comp in your case.
But that's just my .02

I think those numbers are low. I have seen some people offered as much as $450k for theirs. yes special color condition etc. But a well sorted 3.3 should be closer to $300k. RS's are selling for more and IMO these are equally as special. With 3.6's bringing lows of $600k and highs of nearly $900k why wouldn't a sound 3.3 in a unique color not bring more?

I wasn't sure that Slate Grey was a rare low volume car, so my numbers were based on lumping that in with my GR

well, now after having gone thru the two cars that you & I just recently helped a fellow enthusiast (friend of mine) look to buy, and seeing the good one sell fast (& at a very high price for a 3.3),... yes, I am now resetting my opinion on the value of these 3.3 liter Turbo's.

just when you thought the pandemic prices were peak,... the hits just keep on coming.

My rudimentary view of our new reality (that there are 3 types out there: Investors, Collectors & Driving Enthusiasts), may also need a rude awakening,... that the "Driving Enthusiast" will soon no longer be a segment.

Maybe it was my mistake. I only met this friend a few years ago, and since I wanted to drive one of his 911's, we did the swap thing,.... he drove my 3.3 .... and he feel in love ... & wanted one.

... and while he was stretching his budget to begin with (wanted to trade in a 992 he bought last year, so this was an equation where he would trade in his 992 AND add cash to make the 964trbo purchase),... it was not meant to be.

tough landscape out there.

I'm a driving enthusiast with my 3.6. I'll adjust the insurance accordingly for a potential accident. But I'm not worried about miles. The value will stay high regardless. And you can't put a price on memories. Not sitting in a garage for sure.

also......

Apologies if this came from anyone on here, but I got a random call from someone in Florida last week (and have no idea how he got my name and number), that was cold calling trying to buy my 3.6.

I said, "not for sale"

He said, "I think you're going to want to hear my offer"
.
Then began asking me questions on the car, and acted like he was gifting me a Scrooge McDuck fortune with a low-ball 450k offer.

I'm assuming a flipper that got my name and info through a dealer somewhere. Yes let me gift you my car for the lowest price, so you can make hundreds of thousands of dollars profit.

Anyway, I laughed and scoffed with a "not even close.' He seemed to think he was doing me a favor and couldn't understand the fact I didn't think he was gifting me a fortune. And we both hung up.

kinda scary that he was somehow able to get access to your name&number. And clearly he didn't even try to find you (or any other 3.6 owner) who frequent THIS RL subforum,... otherwise he would have PM'd you on this platform.

.... and same here for me,.. regarding miles. 22 yrs ownership & 80k + miles to show for it. We drive it everywhere (except that we've never done a full cross country trek with it). And Cobalt will attest, the amount of time, money & effort I've put into mine (every last mm has been touched except splitting the cases),... and yes dry-ice is controversial with some {to the 100th degree originality freaks} who enjoy seeing cosmoline, which I do not, since imo you can't even see it anymore anyway with the dirt that sticks to it over 35+ yrs,... so yea I cleaned (vapor honed too) every mm of my underbody including steering rack, suspension, engine, tranny, lines, etc. & you can eat off my underbody.

Anyway,... I would think that sort of attention given to a 80k+ mile car is still worth something to some buyer (re: back to this "valuation" thing), ... so yea I have increased my insurance too & my perception of what these are worth to the buying public.

Unbelievable what people think throwing some money around will do. I was offered $600k back in 2021 for mine. He couldn't initially believe I would pass on that price which was about $200k over market at the time. Once I rejected his offer he admitted he thought I did the right thing as he as a collector of over $100M at that time in cars thought these would become more valuable over time.

I sadly don't drive mine as much as i would like. But I am getting to the point I need to decide what to keep and what to sell. My premiums are getting ridiculously high for a car I barely drive and I have others I feel more comfortable taking out. I just upped my insurance to $750k paying triple what I used to.

You can ask Steve. Your story was similar when BB Mike RIP called me to discuss offers like this from Matt Drendel's guy Trevor IIRC. It was an experience if you knew Mike he was hilarious. Trevor offered him $85k which was all the money back then and Mike just hung up. Trevor called back many times upping the number and Mike just hung up. Eventually Matt called him and a deal was made. I made a promise to my wife and if that number comes I am going to sell. It will be like parting with your first born after 25 years but it makes no sense after a certain point to hold onto something that makes me uncomfortable to leave in public view,

Steve as they say Tomorrow never knows.
