@Metal Guru not yet. It is back at the PCar shop working out a stammering issue under acceleration (north of 3,500 rpm). After that it has an appt to get the new classic radio installed and then I’ll post pics under this thread.

I did find after reupholstering the parcel shelf that the plastic piece that trims out the rear wiper wouldn’t fit given the thickness of the leather (which matches the smooth leather of the lower section of the parcel shelf) so I am fabricating one out of wood and having it wrapped in the same leather as the parcel shelf. I’ll post pics of that process too as I think someone might find it of value.

Cant wait until this bad boy is sorted out!

I did my seals and it's a pretty straightforward job. Keep in mind to replace all the clips and grommets on the side skirts/shark fin. You don't need to trim anything or use any glue (at least I didn't). One thing to note there is 1 grommet that is red while all the rest are white. It is a slightly smaller size but good luck finding it in the Porsche catalogue. I had a few spares from my 930 that I used. Otherwise, make sure you take the nuts off (I know I know!) all the underside clips and the ones on the shark fin or you will cause damage. You will need to remove the wheels for easier access also as you have to get inside there to unscrew a few nuts. Anyways, it's not difficult. Just take your time.

Hi everyone who helped out on this. Sorry for the delay in posting something but the car has been in and out of the shop to fix what ended up being an air leak where the intercooler connects with the throttle body.

I don’t get any awards for documenting my work but will certainly do that in the future. I am attaching pictures of the finished product. The headline to me is used OEM parts and buy extra clips. The car has some non OEM trim and it fits like crap. Also no matter how careful you are the clips are old and brittle and will break.

@ianbsears where did you buy all the clips and the seals or can you please share the part numbers? I need to do the same thing!
And I looked in Pelican, but only see the seal on the shark fin. Thanks in advance.

I may have a lot of parts for you because I ordered way too many. I ordered mine through several Porsche dealers and you need a blown up schematic to really see all the parts. Once you have your list shoot me a PM and I can see what i have.

@Igooz @maverick Sorry for the delay in responding. I bought the parts through Porsche Marin. I order them online through porschemarinparts.com which is their wholesale parts ecomm site and pick them up in store. This saves me between 15-30% and is cheaper than Pelican, etc. Double check to see if your local Porsche dealership does the same thing. Do NOT use non-OEM parts - they don't fit and will look sloppy as well as too shiny. I still have a few on my car and can't wait to get rid of them.

Part numbers (clips)
99959199140
99959199000

Rubber trim
965-559-296-00-01c (right rubber trim for shark fin) - there is a different one for the left!
965-559-294-00-01c (right rubber sill trim)

Use the part numbers provided to get to the parts schematic and re-validate them as well as find the same for the left side.

Good luck!

It is really not that bad! I found it easy to remove the shark fin first, and then remove the rocker from front to back using an 8" long flathead (coated) to pry the plastic clips. Good luck.

@Igooz Hey, first time I've seen another polar silver 964 turbo besides mine! Got to admit I was more enamored with your garage set up though!

Related to this very helpful thread, my stone guards are totally shot. Seems to be hard original thick 3m type material. Looks like a flagstone path now😂 any tips on removal techniques? I know steam works on window tint and newer clear bra material but 30 yr old looks more of a challenge. .....Ian yours look new in your pictures👍

I wish I had some intel for you but I am sure someone on this thread will. In fact I just had some paint work done to my bumpers (stripped and painted) and during the process asked the shop manager about removing these. He basically said if someone asks him to remove them that he always tells them the paint underneath has a high likelihood of not staying intact (for what it’s worth).

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

I have removed several factory original stone guards. My biggest advice is patience and lots of it. Although you could get lucky and it comes off in one piece but I highly doubt it. When I did mine 18 years ago it took me the better part of a day to do both sides. I like to roll the film on itself as you go it makes for easier pulling but be careful not to pull too hard.

I do agree that you must take your time and be careful especially with the early 3M films. They used a very aggressive adhesive unlike the newer PPF. I have seen factory paint clear lift before, it is usually around the edges, but usually not on this era Porsche. If it had been repainted the likelihood goes up but it is dependent on how well the paint shop prepped the surface and laid down the paint. Bodyshops always like to protect themselves so it is a standard response.

A heat gun is a big help but be careful not to overheat the paint. I doubt steam at this late date will help but give it a try if you have a steam machine. It is not healthy but Xylene soaked rag allowed to sit covering the area helps break down the adhesives. I also found as you get a little area started if you drizzle a little xylene as you go it helps break down the adhesive from the backside. Just be careful with the stuff it isn't very healthy so I recommend a well ventilated room and all the proper PPE.
