Default Car in for the 45k mile

Droped my car off monday for the 45k mile service. I guess the big deal is the valve job right?? What else are they going to do?

I'll let you guys know what the final bill comes too. Hopefully its less then 2g's because thats about all I can afford.

30K service is around $1000 so i don't really think it would be much more than that. However i know until you see the bill you'll keep getting the butterflies.

So far so good. No big problems.

Replaced an O ring to fix a small seap. Did the valve ajustment. He also said he heard a small exhaust leak and is trying to find it.

He said it was definatly ready for a valve ajustment. Do you think i'll notice in increase in performance or response?

Note to self: Be more carefull when you put oil in the engine, as spilling it all over the place makes it hard to determine if you have an oil leak.

The service is done, everything checked out fine.

He said it was going to be about 1000 bucks. Thats pretty cheap for 45k mile service isn't it.

Default 30 k service

Hey,

I just got quoted close to 2g for a 30k service. Includes; valve adjustment, new spark plugs, replacing oxy sensor, new lubrication, new oil, flushing brake, transmission, and something else? fluids with redline/ synthetic stuff, compression test, inspection of vehicle overall, replacing all filters air, gas, etc, and new exhaust gaskets (they said the 3.3 turbos exhaust gets in the way for valve adjustment or something). And labor of course. They mentioned that they wanted to talk to me about driving habits so they can pick the best spark plugs to fit my driving habits. Is this normal? a bit much?

What do you guys think? I thought it would be more around 1 grand for the service. Are there things being added in that aren't necessary? This was a sight-unseen estimate on service.

Thanks!

Tyler

Does the valve adjustment require the engine out?

Id say that's pretty high (by at least $500), but I do my own work.

Maybe high by $300 but that could be based on labor charges. The total on my 3.6 for the same work was $1700. I believe the other fluid change is power steering.

The valve adjustment does not require engine removal, however it does require exhaust, Intercooler and some other parts to be removed. Pain in the neck job. You will need new valve cover gaskets also.

May I ask why? The 45k mile service is not as involved as the 30k and should not be necessary.

To do the valve job and change the plugs maybe?? Maybe it doesn't have to be taken out but isn't it easier when its taken out.

Six of one, as they say. It is as much work if not more to remove the engine. One plus to removing the engine is you get to inspect other areas such as the clutch that you would not be able to see if doing a valve adjustment with the engine installed.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all the input on this. I think they're going to drop the engine because they said they were also going to remove the plugs and give the car a good inspection/ check clutch life. The price they quoted was only 100 more than what you paid for yours cobalt, and considering there aren't many specialty shops in the area and this one came recommended to me, I'll go with them. Might see if I can get a leakdown test along with everything else though :-)

Thanks again, will let you know how it turns out!
