Question Smog check

Had to do the dreaded smog check today and predictably failed.

I passed CO but failed the hydrocarbon test (slightly more than two times acceptable with a reading of 1.76 when upper limit is 0.80 GPM).

Of course I have a cat bypass and secondary muffler bypass. Would simply bolting on the cat again pass me? Do I need the secondary muffler as well?
Any way I can avoid climbing under the car (ie not touching the exhaust mods)? I did not put the cat bypass on the car myself (it came that way when I bought it). Is it hard to do, and do I have to buy special gaskets and stuff?

Hope these Q's aren't too pedestrian for this board. Thanks.

Dear Jeff,
I am afraid there is no getting away from getting your hands dirty. The cat has to go back on. I have no idea what you have in your garage but if you purchase a cat you will get the mounting kit as well. You shoul dbe okay without have to replace the secondary. This just provides constant velocity and variable noise.
Ciao,
Adrian

Thanks for your response, Adrian. (I ordered your book BTW and can't wait!)

O.K., Does anyone have a used Cat they want to sell me so I can pass (then take it right back off!)? Or, any suggestions aside from Ebay which doesn't have any where to buy one?

You can borrow mine, Jeff. I'm probably 10 minutes down the road from you. I'll send details.

The gasket is metallic and probably fine.
