Amazing amount of work involved.
I'm surprised Larry didn't go for a rain gutter delete? Especially given that the shop spent 3 days shaping them ($$$$). Would have made for a stronger, more aero track car, plus killer looks with that sans sunroof lid. Maybe he was reluctant due to his daily use needs (rain/snow entering the cabin when opening the door)?

Discussed this with Larry - his/the shop's understanding was that the way that the rain gutter is formed on the OEM part (by rolling) actually adds stiffness to the roof and therefore to the car. From an engineering standpoint, this makes sense, but maybe there's other info out there?

Wow. I'd love to make the sunroof go away on mine since I haven't opened it in years, but would cringe watching them cut the roof off.
Wonder if those 17" D90s are a one off, or if they will produce more of them.

Of course it's strong this way, but I bet the factory also chose this method due to ease of manufacturing... and cost. The three panels, roof - rear fender - and side panel (inside car) are folded together and also create a rain gutter. Sounds good and also creates a handy rain gutter for real workd convenience. That's all good, but given the effort here (3 days of shaping) and how the car will used (on track) then it's interesting they didn't consider welding the three separate panels (instead of folding them together) to increase shell strength, reduce drag and cabin wind noise.
It's an awesome car, Larry is awesome, just curious. Especially when I heard about the effort to shape them (means it wasn't not done because of cost). Loved the video and watching the craftsmanship. BTW, look at 356s and 935 race cars.

Does anyone have an example of the gutter delete/welding process? Curious to see what is involved.

Search over at the Pelican Parts 911forum for lots of threads discussing this. Member "Rdane" also completed (years ago) a stunning rain gutterless car.

Saw this car in LA a while back at a shop called 911 Design (no affiliation). The owner must have poured cubic dollars into this project, came out rather nice... love the smooth, gutterless 959 look.

Mark, check the link in my sig. I just had the sunroof deleted on my 993. Not as invasive of a procedure (also significantly cheaper), same result.

Ilko:
Looks like you have another cool project in the works. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I see what you did there
I purchased it from Fenn Lane Motorsport in the U.K. It works on ALL air-cooled 911s. But before you buy it make sure you have an EXCELLENT body shop that can do amazing metalwork. Or you will be disappointed. And to do the job right and install an OEM non-sunroof headliner all glass has to come out as well.
