Starts and runs fine but cannot put into any gear with engine running. Have to turn engine off then put into gear. Start car and car moves forward or backwards without releasing the clutch.
After turning engine off, could not put into other gears except 3rd and 5th.

Can someone shed light on possible issues?

1. failed clutch master cylinder... or
2. failed clutch slave cylinder...or
3. nylon shift bushings on forward shift rod...or
4. failed dual mass clutch...

I know there are some throw out bearing guide issues, but it sounds like it needs a clutch job to my inexperienced ears

In my case the clutch fork pivot shaft ears broke off in the clutch housing, rendering the clutch non functional.
Well known issue with the G50.

Thanks for all your responses. Now in the shop, and will post the result of shop diagnosis.

Clutch fluid was extremely dark - full of moisture. Clutch slave cylinder was flushed and fluid replaced.

You may want to consider replacing the slave and master eventually. It's not that difficult.
