Default Costco tyre prices...

I asked for a quotation for Michelin Pilot Sports P1 (N1 rating) yesterday for the standard sizes 205/50/17 and 255/40/17. The prices were as follows:

Fronts: ca. £156 per tyre
Rears: ca. £165 per tyre

That makes the total.....errr....around £650.

Admittedly this included VAT and simple balancing, but it struck me as not so cheap...any comments? At this stage I have not checked anywhere else.

Christer, I think the Michelins are possibly the most expensive tyres for the 964, which is not to mean they are the best ones. Have you noticed how much advertising they do on PCGB etc??

For a comparison phone Wembley tyres on 020 8459 6191 and speak to Marcus. They normally have very decent prices and do a lot of top end cars. They even supply some of the main dealers and Kwicksteal.

On a related note, if you go there then speak to Marcus about his passion for Porsches, he claims to have had quite a few interesting ones including a 2.7 RS from the 70s.

Another good place is Elite tyres, they have a website but I'm too lazy to look it up on Google so its up to you.

I made a post a while ago exclaiming the same.

I ended up going to a local guy, fitted with 4 SO2 n3's for £525, I could also chat to the guy and watch as he worked, soemthing you can't do at Costco.

Have you called Micheldever tyres - or have they become less price competitive?

Nope, but I used to use them a lot before I moved here. In those days they were usually highly price competitive and easy to deal with.

Also there are some decent little country roads between there and, IIRC, Stockbridge that are good for a blast. Purely to warm up the new rubber, you understand.

I use Costco a lot here, appeals to the Scot in me, but while I'm happy with them doing the tires on my daily beaters I'm not sure I'd trust them with the 964.

Nothing wrong with Toyos, they're great tyres but rather soft so they do wear relatively quickly.

Didn't someone here have a problem with Micheldever?

The point of my post was that since I was at Costco I might as well find out what their prices were if only for information. I don't think I will be going there for mine when I need replacements.

Christer,
I don't think you should be looking at other brands of tyres anyway. When I replaced mine on Monday, you told me that Khumo's were the best tyre in the world ever, they would last 50,000 miles, make my car 10mph faster, increase fuel economy to 40mpg, get me a pay rise and improve my sex life.

And now - a few days later - you're suddenly getting quotes for Michelins?????
