Default Fan & Shroud Refurb

Decided to refurbish the heavily oxidized shroud & fan. A good old clean up, bead blast, HPC paint, zinc plating of pulleys, and new belts.

Great work spokes, I'll be pulling mine apart tomorrow all going well. Do you have any photos to add of how all this comes apart?

How much have you disassembled so far? Your new fan will come with a hub bearing, which is a firm push pit. The old fan is more of an interference fit on the shaft. A two arm puller will deal to that. It doesn’t matter if you damage it given you are not reusing it.

Hi John, I havnt touched it yet. Thinking I'll go to super heap tomorrow and buy a gear puller. I was actually thinking of buying a rothsport rs pulley in my quest for simplicity, will that make things different? I have been doing some searching but I'm not good at understanding things until it' in ront of me.

The holes in the fan are quite small, so measure them before you go shopping. I can’t see the point in the rs pulley unless you have a particular reason for splashing the cash, the OE system works well.

A couple of extra pics. Removing the alternator wires to free the alternator from the car can be PIA. Not much room, and the philips screw $%#@. I used a simple 2 jaw pulley to remove the fan. 1 beer job really. Check the alternator brushes, commutator for wear while you are there..

Huge improvement and thanks for posting the pics.

I was fortunate that my fan was restored during the engine rebuild. I now make a point to wipe the fan after every couple of drives and thus far it still looks new. To clean just use an old microfiber and quick detail spray.
