Well I did a really bone head move while changing valve cover gaskets and plugs. I had a senior moment and instead of putting the plug back in the correct place when I had the cover off i stuck it in the oil return tube ! Of course as soon as I realized it it fell off inside the tube. I tried to fish it out with a flexible grabber tool and all i managed to do is drop it out the back end into the bottom end. I see on Pelican they sell the collapsible tubes which I had used on my S and SC years ago. I should be able to fish it out with the tube out or least hope I can. Anybody changed them before? Search turned up next to nothing.
While I am at it destroying my car i need to replace my lower covers. The are really pitted and i guess the last place i had do the valves a few years ago put about a tube of sealer in the groves. What are good reasonable price ones these days?
I did them on my car a few years ago during a reseal. I came up with this method to install them, two hose clamps around the tube and a quick grip clamp in reverse to drive the tubes in, and then remove the clamps. I used Molykote on the o-rings, and they've been leak free.
Success I was able to get the plug out of the bottom end. I used my Harbor freight bore light, a big magnet to move the plug around and a flexible dollar store grabbing tool. Didnt have to take out the oil return tube. My bottom valve covers are shot so got new ones on order and noticed one of my CV boots ripped across the top from old age and the suspension hanging down for the last few weeks on the lift.
It has been sitting in some oil now for a couple weeks. Do I need to replace the plug? I cleaned it up good with carb cleaner but dont know how well they are sealed inside.
Lol. That's crazy. I know you were happy when it came out. That plug is jinxed... Throw it off a bridge. Lol. The money you saved on oil return tubes, buy a spark plug.
