Default Mexican1000 (Rothsport 964 build)

Usually these guys are too busy building, so happy to see them documenting a really cool project for the upcoming Mexican1000.

I want a 964 rally machine!

https://www.facebook.com/Rothsport/

Rothsport Racing to field an air-cooled Porsche team in the April 2017 NORRA MEXICAN 1000.

The team at Rothsport Racing is proud to announce participation in the 2017 NORRA MEXICAN 1000. This stage rally format event is being held on the Baja Peninsula April 21-28, 2017 and is open to various vintage off road vehicles.

For the 2017 Mexican 1000 Rothsport will provide a fully supported race experience including:
- Ground up custom air-cooled Porsche 911 build with off road race prep utilizing Tuthill Racing components
- Vehicle transport to and from Mexico, as well as support on the ground with our air-cooled 1974 Pinzgauer 712 6 wheel drive high mobility vehicle
- On site mechanical support

Space is very limited and so if you are interested in joining the campaign for the 50th anniversary run of the NORRA MEXICAN 1000, reserve your space with Rothsport Racing immediately.
The first of the Mexican 1000 Safari engines getting ready for some dyno time here at Rothsport.

Rallycar work in-progress on the 964 Mexican1000 chassis. Almost ready for the cage work.

One of the 964 Safari Mexican1000 chassis getting some serious reinforcements and cage work. Stay tuned for more updates.

Oh! Keeping the sunroof?
Looking great!

Now going out to garage to turn up the coilovers to have some cheap 4x4 action in the C4.

Tying the rear shock mounts to the cage adds a bunch of chassis stiffness, the box section that connects the rear rails and bulkhead are the primary load members. I wasn't thinking of doing this on my car but builder convinced me that with the roof cut off it was needed. There is no flex in the chassis. Makes a big difference in a road car and critical for a safari car.

That is a very well executed cage, thanks for posting links to this build, will follow it very closely as I too would love to build a safari Porsche for overland trips

Long time ago I used to 911 co-drive in the British Historic Championship and was often up against the main man Francis Tuthill. Want a rally bred FIA compliant 911? - he's also a go to guy. https://youtu.be/t3_yBf4N6IE

Damn that will look great. I'm not even sure I've seen a rally 964 mod til now

Maybe I missed something but is this car a carrera 4 or carrera 2? Will it have awd at the end?

They make some amazing longhood cars. Also big thumbs up on their 997 project.

The King - Zwart! (I'd easily call Röhrl that too)

It's not my car. Sorry for the confusion.
Just grabbed content from the web to share with the group here. I'm sure the group would love to hear from the owner. This one is being built right.

Putting the final touches on one of the Mexican1000 chassis. Off to paint on Wed. The cage work came out so good you almost want to roll the thing and see how good it works!

This would be a dream trip!

Got it - thanks. Hopefully, when April comes, there will be regular updates on the Rothsport site and stage updates/clips. Here's hoping...
