Default Engine reseal scope?

About 12,000 miles and 4 years ago, my engine had a full rebuild.

In the last year of use it has developed a sizeable leak that is draining the oil levels and my wallet. At faster speeds this oil is splattering over the back of the car.

It is almost certainly a leak from the pulley area. As I put a collar around the nose bearing the next most likely candidate is the intermediate shaft o-ring below it.

If it's a case leak then I may have to reseal the engine. Assuming I do my own labour, what parts aside from gaskets are required in a reseal? Are head studs reusable?

Head studs don't come off when splitting the case. Case through bolts are reusable. Some just replace the o-rings on the case through bolts if found leaking. It could be as easy as intermediate shaft o-ring like you pointed out, since the engine was rebuild not to long ago. The OEM seal kit has all necessary bits and itself is not overly expensive but "while you are there" bill is quite something.

Do you have all the special tools to do the job?

Thanks!
Andrew

I have the tools required to sort the intermediate shaft o ring. I bought the pulley holder and remover

Just ordering a yoke and hardware now. I'm sure I will need it one day....

I would start small and expand my search for a leak as I go.

Thanks!
