Not driven the 964 for a couple of weeks, for various reasons and was even toying with the idea of selling it (long story...). However, I took it out for a blast today and remembered what it is I love about the car.
There's something strangely addictive about 911s, and I'm hooked something rotten. Guess I'm stuck with driving them for life.
In my experience, it is rare that an automobile writer such as yourself keeps a car for more than 90 days. Especially those such as yourself who get to test exotic vehicles. So consider yourself an old-timer!
I know what you mean. Each time I drive mine, it's just somehow feels right. Special. With my previous cars, I've always bought them with the plan to replace every 2 or 3 years. Couldn't imagine ever not having the 911 now.
Perhaps this is one reason why so many older 911's are on the road compared to other cars. Owners plan to keep them for longer, & thus look after them better.
Plus, if you ever think about selling the 964 again, take your Nissan out for a spin & then the 964. Thats sure to make you change your mind!
I've had the 964 nearly two years - I've never kept a car that long before, which is weird. I can't see me selling it in the near future, either, because I don't know what I'd replace it with.
Hi, Phil. I wondered why you'd been so quiet lately.
Although I have wavered a little from time to time, I have kept my 964 since July 1994. I recognise those feelings so well. First the 'wavering' then the 'home coming', followed by the realisation that this is a permanent addiction.

91 Coral Red C2
Hi Eddie,
its guards red actually, the "pink" is a joke( in the loosest sense) on the colour stability of the paint. I did post a picture previously on rennlist but it looked.........red!
Thanks! Interesting British Humour. I had been searching the colour code from my little book.
Sorry to sidetrack the issue slightly but
Really agree to Phil, I have a Mer in noraml use and use use the 964 when I have spare time. The feeling has always been great, it's a 12 years old car and still turns heads. This morning I drove it and saw another 964, we excahanged a smile and we know we have great cars.
I have been driven many many cars and worked for a car company and had their cars as company cars, the majority of them worthed more than my 964 and yet only 964 could give me that feeling Phil is talking about...
They are special aren't they. Looking back over my cars history, I've had it for longer than any other individual owner (22 months) and driven 36k of its 109k miles and invested far more in it than they did, mainly in improvements. Every time I drive it, it brings a smile to my face, yep best fun you can have with your clothes on.
I know how you feel. I've spent a lot on mine in the 2 years I've owned it. Every other car I've owned, I always hated spending cash on them. The 964 is different somehow, perhaps more of a hobbie or interest.
Each time I get a bit of cash put to the side, I'm thinking, what does the car need or how could I make it better?!!
In the beginning, I bought it with an intent to get the "911 ownership thing" out of my system. Don't think I ever will though!
