I drove my 77 911S for 18 years before moving up to "comfort" about 6 months ago. If I could have I would have liked to had them both but for power and still having the 911 feel and look I wouldnt go back to the earlier car. I dont miss the bumpsteer or the messy 915 shifting at all. Kind of nice to have a actually working Air-conditioning and heating system also!
The S was a fun car tho just getting to where comfort says a bit more on the old bones

The 964 follows the tradition of being a hand built, high quality Porsche. The doors close like a bank valt, the switch gear has a great feel, etc. etc. The 964 will be quieter and more refined. But, the 3.6 with it's added torque can be addicting.
Drive the 3.2 this weekend on the freeway at speed. Then jump into a 964 and see which car you like better. They both have their plusses and minuses.

I recently went from a very well maintained 3.2 to a very well maintained 964. There's no difference in the feeling of doors etc., the 964 has exactly the same vault-like feeling to it. But then of course it can differ from car to car, but that has more to do with how they have been treated than differences in materials or build quality. Driving them, however, is two very different experiences.
