Headlight chime - a feature on any 964?

I did a road trip this weekend and drove during the day with the headlights on. I forgot to turn them off after the run and only just had enough juice to start the car, four hours later.

It seems like a good idea to fit a warning system. Maybe a buzzer that sounds when the door is open and lights are on.

Did any 964 have a headlight chime as standard? If it did I can avoid reinventing the wheel.

my '91 has a chime.

As does my '90

Both my 90 & 91's have chimes.

Same here on my 91.

Thanks for the feedback. What Country builds are your cars? Mine are Singapore and New Zealand.

My 90 Targa behaves differently - when the key is removed from the ignition/starter switch, I can have parking lights only regardless of whether the rotary light switch is turned to the first or second stop position. In addition, there is no chime in either stop position.

I also re-read the owner's manual, but there is no mention of chime for lights except for the safety seat belt buzzer. My car is a tourist delivery (900) in Germany for California (C03) so I am not sure if that might cause any differences from many of your cars in N. America.

My chime usually stops as soon as I remove the key from ignition. But if the key is toggled a little sometimes it doesn't work even with key in ignition. How loose / worn out is your key - mine is pretty worn.

No chime in my US 89. I've also managed to forget my headlights once. Got lucky and the car barely started like you.

It appears that non chimed cars have a R12 bridge Part Number 964.610.184.01 under the left hand side of the dashboard (I gather that's for LHD cars, maybe different for RHD). Changing this with part number 928.618.103.03 adds a chime.

The gong relay is located under the left hand side of the dashboard, according to the manual. No sign of it on either of my cars.

I'd love to do this mod to mine as well.

It's a '90 Swiss car with no chime.

Well... in 1991 nothing changed for Swiss car, I can confirm.

It's only in US/Canada cars, it was compulsory over there in those years, not so in the ROW
