Default Oil anyone - slightly OT?

Just a thought.

I was at Costco the other day. They had 4.5 litres of Castrol Magnatec (10-40W) for £14.90 and 4 litres of Mobil 1 @ ca. £26. I know that my specialist will give me £70 plus VAT (@17.5%) off my service if I supply my own oil. They recommend Magnatec for my car so that means I will save around £50 per service. If anyone else needs oil in the next few months, I don't mind picking some up for those who don't have a Costco card...

p.s. I am not making any special trips for anyone on this. I would say my next trip is in January so let me know if that is something that would benefit anyone.

p.p.s. I would not be inclinced to drag home more than say 12 cans per trip...for obvious reasons.

Thanks Christer...I think I'll think again about joining Costco...my worry is that I'll save £x on oil and spend twice that on other impulse purchases!

I didn't see that - I might go back sooner than planned then......

p.s. - Kevin, how is your repair by Graham Richardsons holding up? I am going to book the car in by the end of November.

Andrew, the 964's engine is of older design which means it doesn't necessarily benefit from fully synthetic oils like modern engines do. In particular running on 0-40W viscosity will just mean the car will burn through oil more quickly. Magnatech is indeed the reccommended choice.

Hi Christer,

The repairs holding up fine, a couple of months and it will be almost a year ago.........
Planning on doing the stone chipped front end soon, so GR will have the car again.....
The Costco offers are in the passport booklets they hand out.

Has anyone ever bought Michelins from Costco.

Are they at a good price?

I didn't think so, plus I didn't like the idea of handing my keys over to some *** and then not being allowed to be with them whilst they did their work.

I picked up recently a set of So2's N3 for £525, which I thought wasn't that bad considering.
Some of the Michelin's they wanted £170ea...............I baulked at the idea.

Kevin

car now booked in at GR for 15th Nov - I will do the front and rear screen bubbles, repaint whole roof and also the engine lid whilst I am there. As my car is Guards Red they have told me that they think the roof and lid might look slightly different to the rest of the car. I don't care though as the rust needs doing! How does the colour look on your car?

Well.......

Because of the faded red it can look different in some lights, but not always, I was warned of it, and its partially the reason for getting the rest done. They did blend the engine lid and door into the front wing and it isn't noticeable. The only part that is is the "A" pillar onto the front wings, these I'm having done with the bonnet and bumper.

Its probably the worst thing about having a Red car...............

Overall though I'm happy with the work and the guys who sprayed the cars attitude to me and his work...

If you want to see the car sometime? it's easy with me. provding I'm not working that is.

regards

Kevin.

Kevin

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps we can have a natter when I pick the car up sometime late November? I can get in touch.

I have just arranged for Autoglass to come and fit new screens in when the rust work has been completed. They have up front told me that they do not use the original Porsche seals, so I will get these myself.

AG, the price for the Michelins isn't bad at all. Have they fitted them and did they damage your wheels? Is your car a C4 since you have gone to 225 on the front?

Christer
yeah mines a C4 (hence the change after getting huge amounts of understeer on the last north walse run)

just got the price, tyres to be done once I've replaced all the oil I lost on saturday, they did a 400 Ferrari for me last year and did a superb job, as always it pays to chat to the guy doing the job and to ask to drive your own car onto the ramp!
