Default 964 windsheild and seal questions

I am working on trying to get ready for a window out respray back to original mint green on my C2 MY91. Rear window and quarter glass front and rear are all Sekurit with Porsche trade mark stamp on them Wind sheild is marked Sigla and Pilkington. I think the windsheild may have been replaced in the late 1990s when car was resprayed blue.
My confusion lies in the seals as near as I can tell the rear window and windshield have what I believe are Carrera 3.2 seals and moldings. So I assume that I will need Carrera 3.2 seals when renistalling the glass. Has anyone seen this before on their cars and can verify my thoughts on this

I have never seen both Sigla and Pilkington marked on the front windshield. Usually they just say Sigla or Pilkington. Pilkington is the common less expensive replacement. I paid $455 for a Pilkington for my track car the Sigla from Porsche was well over 2 grand.

If the windshield has been replaced with the carrera style then you will need a to use the carrera 3.2 seal or buy a correct replacement windshield and new 964 seal. Although what I find interesting is that the 3.2 windshield is Sekurit oem so I would verify what windshield you have first.

Side windows are sekurit

Thank you Cobalt I will try and get a picture of the windsheild markings tonight when I get home. I think the car was painted in 1998. The car was originally sold in Honolulu HI was there till I got it 3 years ago.

Default My Apologies

After posting the start of this thread and with a few hints from Cobalt I found more info on this subject I probably have a windshield and seal from a 3.2 Carrera . Will try and determine that for sure from the windows markings

Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought I heard that Pilkington owned (acquired) Sigla ?

I know one owns the other but not sure which.

Sigla with the OE marking is factory correct for the 964. There was a while Pilkington was issuing windshields with OE markings but that was for a short time now they come without the OE marking but it is the same quality part. I have not seen both Pilkington and Sigla marked on the same windshield but it doesn't mean some weren't made.

What is odd is Sekurit is OE for the 3.2 and you can buy them for as little as $290 with the antenna. So to have a 3.2 with both Sigla, Pilkington and the OE marking seems odd to me.

Visually you can't tell the differences by the lack of black along the bottom on the 3.2 and the 3.2 measures about 1/4" less all around vs the 964 part.

This one has costed me $1700 CAD just recently. 964 fit, black border around, antenna embeded in the glass.

Did not come with a bar of gold

Thanks!
Andrew

Sigla is a brand name of glass that Pilkington started selling back 1979 (or at least that was when they trademarked the name). Sekurit is the Automotive glazing division of Saint Gobain.

Hey John,

Somehow (back in Aug/Sept '16) I never saw this thread. cscrogham just posted this link to get here, from over on his FS thread, regarding windshields on 964's.

Interestingly enough, it appears there were several different variations of the stampings on the front windshields.

Cobalt has seen my car up-close & personal,... and although I doub't he set his eyes directly on my windshield stamping, he can attest to the originality of paint etc.

John, you & I have the same stamping, and mine is also a 1991, albeit it a Turbo. Seems they were using this in the 1991 MY & did have both "SIGLA" & "Pilkington" etched together...
