Default Dme issues

The last few days my car has been getting a little slow to start, taking a couple more turns before it fires up and sometimes with an erratic idle then last night an hour after driving it home it wouldn't start. I assumed that the fuel pump which I believe is original had failed, before ordering a new one I decided to try the spare relay that's been stashed in the glove box for years. It's a 993 part number ending 00, anyway, the car fired right up. I decided to try the old one again which was actually a newer part number and was new when the car was rebuilt 18 months ago and the car now runs fine with both! My question is are the relays temperamental or do they normally fail totally when they go and should I be looking elsewhere for the starting issues?

I bought a solid state DME with fuel pump prime feature. Very cool and supposedly fail safe upgrade

Look into the fuel pressure regulator if problems persist with both DME's

Thanks for that, I will be ordering one. At least then I'll know to look elsewhere if it happens again!

Will do, I have also been told that it could be the flywheel sensor but will do the pressure regulator first if it happens again. Thanks, Jim.

Just a by the way- I looked at the website to see if I could order one and it looks like at the moment it's only available in the US, so I have sent them an email asking if available to UK people. Should get an answer after this weekend. Will post up any further details.

Thanks for the heads up, it'll save me emailing them as well. UK group buy maybe?

Been waiting for a reply to my email but had nothing yet. Could Stan and Porsche mania please send them an enquiry email to see if they will respond? Maybe then they will stir themselves into action! Thanks.

I resent my original email and got a reply back quite quickly apologising for the late reply. He said that the relays were available via the website or on eBay or Amazon. I looked on eBay.com and couldn't find them, but easily found them on Amazon.com If there were to be a UK group buy, how would we go about it please Stan? Is it just a lower price to be got for having a certain quantity?

Hi, I already sent an email myself a day or so ago and just got a reply saying they can't ship outside the UK.

Tried the order process on Amazon.com to see what would happen and still can't complete the order.

Maybe a friendly American Rennlister would ship a batch for us?

Sent another email asking if available for the UK and this is the reply-

Unfortunately, the EU has extensive regulations on automotive parts. At this time it is not cost effective to invest in the certifications they require. For now I can only ship to addresses inside the USA. With the UK leaving the EU, hopefully they drop the laws that prevent me from selling to you guys.

As you said earlier Stan is there anyone willing to purchase on our behalf and then resell to us?

I've been speaking to some other guys in the L9O and may have a contact who can ship some for us to try in the UK.

If so, I'll start a new thread for a UK group buy.
