Single spark plug wire replacement ?
Just noticed one of my spark plug wires needs replacement (slightly burn from resting on engine). Other are ok.
I do not want to replace entire set. Any souce for replacing just one wire, other than buying a used set.
thanks
Earl

Earl,
Porsche sells the 964 wires individually. As I recall, you can't buy a complete set from Porsche, you have to buy the individual wires to make up a set.

Dear 964ers,
Following this topic, I notice certain advertisment of spark plug wire claiming to boost engine performance by some 5 to 10 HP. Have any one tried them and do they really give you that kind of improvement. They've obviously shown dyno testing graphs to prove their claim.
Any experience and thoughts on that??

Dear Eddie,
I would advise you to save your money. Such claims are ridiculous unless you manipulate the situation. Power is lost when the spark plug wires age. Voltage is lost along the wire reducing the actual spark. A reduced spark results in inefficient burning or combustion. If you took a car with a set of old bad leads and dynoed it then replaced all the leads you may see an increase in power. However this would occur with any set of new leads. This is just a restoration not an increase.
The same argument applies to brakes.
Dear Earl,
If you have one damaged wire you may have more. In fact it is quite likely. I recommend you check them all and replace any or all of the bad ones. I do not know how old your spark plug wires are but if they are originals it may well be worth while replacing the lot.
Ciao,

Hi Earl,
Just a note about determining the condition of HT cables; this is done by checking the resistance of the cables (usually in ohms per foot). I'm not sure what the resistance values should be (3K ohms rings a bell) but each cable should be tested with a multimeter to determine if the resistance is greater than the allowed value, and discard if it is. Also check for condition such as splits etc, and condition of the boots. It's not unusual to find that a perfectly good looking cable has high resistance and needs replacing.
It is possible to obtain OEM 964 cables made by the same manufacturer that Porsche uses - they are quite a lot cheaper and look the same.
