Talking Extra HP?

Check out Excellence Nov 2003, pg 78, top left column: "It was rated at a nominal 250 bhp at 6100 rpm, although production engines actually averaged between 255 and 258 bhp". Forget about chips, drilled air-box & K&N filters, I justed picked up 8 hp. Later in the article a reference is made to all Guards Red 964s having an extra 15 hp

Its not "extra HP" it is conservative and realistic engine expectation.

Read --- It keeps manufacturers from getting sued for false advertising. You can always have extra HP but not meeting technical specs is a NO, NO!

MAZDA, if I recall just settled a lawsuit with the RX8 for not delivering advertisting HP. Owners were offered complete refund or a rebate with free service.

I believe Ford ran into this a couple of times in the past 10 years....my brother-in-law's 1993 mustang 5.0 is rated at 205 hp, whereas the same engine was rated at 225 from 1987-1992, and to my knowledge there was nothing done to the 1993 to lower the power. It was from tighter emissions controls in that 6 year span is my guess, and most likely when the government got around to "auditing" the power, made the company advertise the correct power. The other time with Ford was with their Cobra, sometime in the mid- late 1990s. The car couldn't make the power they advertised, and the company actually held back selling the car for a full model year!!
