Why on earth did they not put the USB ports on the front of the radio? are they serious with that extra "pod" you have to mount someplace else?
For $$$$ they're asking, they sure didn't think it through.
Looks great, except for the extra "pod"...

Do you think you could add a back up camera to the aux input port?
Version 1 of the Porsche Classic (not available in the US) had a reversing camera as an option from Porsche themselves.

Regarding the positioning of the USB, I put mine inside the glove box after drilling a little hole for the wires, keeps everything out of site.

Best,
Paul

Cheers,
Paul

The new Clsssic Radio has beeen installed into my 964. Whoever designed that radio was brilliant. Sometimes it is even harder to design a small piece like the radio. In any event, it could not be better. In one perfectly looking, period correct box, Porsche has brought almost 25 years of new technology into older cars. If this is a sign of the work of the Classic Department in Zuffenhausen, the future for older Porsches is, indeed, very bright.

Robert, I completely agree. I have had mine installed as well in two cars and it completely changes the experience. Makes the cars more usable to me, on a daily basis, and makes the driving experience more modern in some ways, safer in others, and a pleasure in all ways. Highly recommended upgrade.

Here is another and cheaper option... something like this plus nav off your smart phone.

Thanks LPMM. That looks like a good, budget option.

And miss out on your witty repartee Norse man? Where's the fun in that!

I was surprised to find that is actually the name of the unit rather than just a description.

Thanks to all for the replies and suggestions.

Will this head unit improve the overall sound quality? Recently, I replaced all my speakers and amp to JL and while the sound is 10 times better its far from great. If it will make a difference than I will go for it. Thanks.

Source, amp, and components are the main difference makers in your audio system. The preamp (head unit, in this case) will make almost no difference in SQ unless your current unit is something really rough. 95% chance you will hear no difference if you are using an external amp to power your speakers.

One of the issues I'm having is static on an fm station that would not occur on my modern day car. Crystal clear in my 991 one but not in the 964. With regards to the amp. Don't all 964s have an amp under the seat? Am I better off without an external amp and use the built in amp in a head unit?
