Supposedly this is why the Vin Numbers start at 0061 and not 0001. The first 60 cars for each MY vin number were supposedly put through all sorts of crash tests to verify they meet DOT standards.

How many were actually crashed or tested this way is anyone's guess.

Yes it is a shame!!!! Especially a wide body.

BTW these cars are quite sturdy. I have seen first hand two 911's crash head on at over 60 mph and the damage was not materially different.
