Default Another failed PPI...

Second thread, another failed PPI.

Out of curiosity, what would be an estimate cost for the items below:

- Speedo, odometer and trip do NOT work

- Pixel out on radio display (see sheet for more info)
- Right front fog lamp lens cracked
- Both front strut boots torn and bump stops in poor shape
- All wheels have curbing or scratches
- Front diff/torque tube has a heavy fluid leak
- Both lower valve covers leaking oil
- Slight seepage of oil where trans and motor mate (Rear main?)
- Heat shield on driver side by valve cover full of small holes
- Heat shields on body in poor condition, (crinkled)
- "PORSCHE" lens in center of rear has a crack on top black portion, pitting on lens
- Red paint runs on lower rear bumper

- Several chips in windshield (4, one of them is a "bulls-eye" which may worsen)
- Driver side switch for passenger window has intermittent operation (bad switch)
- Various paint chips/rock chips around car.

I think you should ask Rennlisters to take a look at your future prospective cars before dropping the money on the PPI. Seems like a knowledgeable member with a flashlight could have found a majority of these issues.

If you're definitely not going to go through with the purchase do you mind posting up the ad so others can be aware?

Odo not working...that alone is a red flag.

Yeah. I'm down $1,000 right now. Kind of depressing.

i love looking at cars. Long as they're in the LA/OC area... have a pretty **** attention to detail ... :-)

The car above, what's the asking? How many miles?

BTW I fking hate photos with filters on them. They're hiding crap. Get me raw dog.

Buddy of ours is a car dealer, he will re-take pictures when they represent a car too nice. He's a good dealer.
"real' issues

$45K, 80,000 miles

Spyerx, i know I should be more patient, but I keep running into the same situation. I'm going to avoid dealers from now on...but damn, how bad luck can I be.

Although the ad has a lot of sales hype, other than the "heavy" diff tube leak and maybe the valve cover leaks (depending on how leaky they are), all of the things that you listed are relatively minor maintenance items that should be expected when looking at a 911 that is 27 years old. You should expect that you'll need to do (or have done) this type of general maintenance work on any 964 that you buy. If that's not something that you're willing to do, you may want to look for a newer type of 911 - maybe a 997?

If i were to step into an 89-90, I wanted one with an engine rebuild. This car had records of all the work done and even had an engine out service done. With all these records, its really puzzling to see mentioned items AND the odometer and speedometer not working. I guess I was overly optimistic about this one.

price wasn't horrible, it's listed sold? Maybe it's a 40k car if you put in an offer? The only $ items on that list are POSSIBLY the torque tube leaking and the rear main seal which requires a tranny drop to fix. The rest are pretty minor nits, motor looked really clean - did you leak it down?

Between you and me this is why I cannot buy a car out of state unless it were brand new. I need to see it with my own eyes and assess the issues and what I'm comfortable with and not.

Yeah, I paid for a compression test as well. All 6 cylinders are strong. I set aside money for incidentals, but I did expect to be coming into these list of items at $45k.

This is not even including the flawed remarks for the paint.

I messaged both these guys before. The RED one never got back to me. I kind of think the White Targa is overpriced =/

Have you tried Parkhaus1 or Lucky Driver in Miami? No idea what their inventory is but I do often see 964's in their warehouse. Good luck.

Agreed with Spyrex assessment. One thing that bugs me is that the rear left light seems misaligned, which is where the fender bender was according to the description. As for the speedo/odo not working, ask Fabie for the Carfax and a scan of all service records, he will provide it to you. Then cross reference mileage and see if you can tell if it is a recent happening. If recent and if you are still interested in the car, call North Hollywood Speedo for a quote to fix it.

If you like the car, keep in touch with him and negotiate based on the results, he will come down. He had a Targa I almost bought for my wife, his initial asking was $45K which I thought was ridiculous and eventually came down to $37K. I passed because the 964 had all service records from new except for the last 7 years., complete black hole.

Did you ever contact the guy with the Red '90 C4 on PCA?
