John, have you dealt with Blue Spot? I've not come across it before, looks a useful company.

Cheers

Blue Spot were brilliant when I used them. Clear and simple web-site, cheaper that Halfords, no mistakes, stuff showed up the following day.

Highly recommended.

OK, thanks. I'll use them to get an aux lead.

The nice thing about the current Blaupunkt stuff, which has two aux inputs, is that you can hard wire a CD changer or whatever to the first lead, and leave the second lead open, terminated as a mini jack. You can then plug anything into it ... i-Pod, walkman, whatever. I have even used my Olympus voice recorder on it (which also plays MP3s). I like nice simple technology like this when it just works (or did Honda already say that?)

Good gracious - I've just found out that Blue Spot is in Woodstock - about four miles from my home!

Poke about on the net and you'll find they run a companion site for Kenwood stuff too.

Arguably even better than using an i-pod is a dedicated solid state MP3 player. Blaupunkt were doing this one ...

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/mp3_drv.asp

but have already deleted it. I can only assume that a better and cheaper one is just round the corner. I see Kenwood are advertising something similar called the Music Keg.

That's the one I have. I've never got it to work properly with the headunit - every time I switch off, the drive is no longer recognised. Also, each disc costs £180 (!!) and holds just 18 hours of music.

Can I assume from these rather unsequenced postings that you are not impressed with the compact drive? Why?

Just to stress again that the iPod allows you to take your music EVERYWHERE. It also holds ALLmy Outlook contact names, addresses and phone numbers.
And it is so small and VERY cool.

I've yet to hear anything bad about iPods. You can also use them as an external Firewire hard-drive for your computer (now, there's a tax dodge!). I reckon I'll deserve one after I finished converting all my CDs. Now up to 'C' for JJ Cale, a long way till I finish at Zappa, though...

Why didn't you like the Blaupunkt Compact Drive? Sounded like a great solution, was thinking about getting it myself.

See my earlier post - 'I've never got it to work properly with the headunit - every time I switch off, the drive is no longer recognised. Also, each disc costs £180 (!!) and holds just 18 hours of music'

I'm open to offers if anyone wants to buy it
