Default cam housing

Am in interpreting correctly that the new cam housing is 2 MM
off from the old one?

The way i see it, the cam is held in place between part #2 and part #5 in the THIS diagram. The location of the plug in the cam tower should not affect cam location. The sprocket location is adjusted with the shims on top of part #5.

Default cam location

That's correct CRG. But the location of No 2 is determined buy the face of the cam carrier which is evidently 2MM "shorter" I.E. towards the flywheel end.
Odd problem for sure that it was machined so far off.

I am wondering if you have the cam chain sprocket on the right way around. On the left side, the sprocket should have the side with the undercut facing out, right side the flat side is facing out. Just a thought.

Default Thank you fellas!

That was it. I thought they cam off with both flat sides facing out. Flipped the left and it is dead on with two shims. Thanks again.

No worry, glad we could help. I quite often take pictures with my iPhone when I take stuff apart for the first time, has saved my bacon many a time.

Ive also just had these seals and gaskets replaced, bank 1 was leaking but bank 2 had been off previously and was ok. There was also a leak from the crankshaft nose seal and the IMS O ring was replaced while everything was accessible.
The car feels much stronger and smoother than before. I measured 1.15mm of lift on bank 1 and 1.45mm on bank two prior to strip down although my Indy said not to trust those values as the chain tensioners will move differently when there is zero oil pressure i.e they advised to only use the proper tension tool when checking the timing to ensure accurate results. Not something I would have managed at home tbh as the distributor was a real pain to remove.
