Now Starter Issues
Been almost now a year since my car has been on the road. I now have a rebuilt motor installed and trying to finish up some final items.
I have a rebuilt starter from Autohaus which is rebuilt by Bosch. I can get the car started, but it takes quite a few tries (like 10-15). It usually just clicks and no turnover. I have turned the motor with a wrench first and that seems to help, but cannot be sure since randomly it will start.
What I have done:
*Checked and cleaned positive connections at starter
*Checked ground cable at starter (cleaned it when it was out)
*Cleaned battery terminals and ground or negative cable
*Had battery checked at Autozone
*Battery fully charged
Any other ideas? I am just so frustrated as I want to get it back on the road.
Thanks.

I had a rebuild by Bosch starter in my car, it lasted only a few years. Same symptoms as yours, ended up buying a NEW Bosch starter, and so far no problems.

Thanks. I am probably going to pull it and see if I can get a replacement since it is under warranty. Have not seen new ones for sale on the usual sites.

Ended up getting a new starter (now the 996 part number). Looks almost identical to the 964 part and installed easilly. Tried the starter and it worked right away. Still have to fix my pressure switch on the high pressure pump and then hopefully back on the road.

You G50 guys are lucky. Mine's a Tiptronic and the only new one I could find was through the dealer for $1400, 4-6 weeks out from Germany. I just installed a Bosch reman unit from AutohausAZ, hoping for the best despite the bad reports.
