What you do see a lot of is spoiler wall failures at the rubber hinge. Admittedly this is only an $80 part (from the right vendor) but also a pain in the rear.

A major reason for not wanting the spoiler going up and down while driving about town it the noise it makes. For some reason the 993 spoiler drive is rather noisy. That on my 1990 C4 wasn't.

The real reason for disabling the speed activation is to keep the wing up all the time especially in traffic and get better engine cooling....same reason why we ALL should remove the undertray.......OK Here we go!!

Simple answer to that is to fit a louder exhaust

Has anyone put an o-scope on the speed signal? I've heard it's 5-10V square wave form.

Is that /w respect to chassis ground or other system ground.

Is pin 5 ground?

Also, if I inject a DC signal /w respect to the ground (Pin 5) it should work right?

I think the 80kmh speed is too low; often reach in urban driving.

In a normal home-work-home trip, my spoiler goes up and down about 20 times. Already changed a broken spoiler wall.

In my opinion, the best remedy should be a 120 km/h speed for raising spoiler up. Until this, the spoiler is only a cooling enhancement.

To do this, I need a CMOS divider for the speed signal; but the ratio is 4/3: not so simple with standard ICs. Should I use a PLL ?

Heck, I don't even START my 964 in fear of wearing out the engine!

Just kidding.

This is a FUNNY topic though, okay...let's go with either the "you like to tinker" attitude, or "you worry WAY too much" -or- the "you have WAY TOO MUCH TIME on your hands" approach.

I would just leave it alone, Porsche knows what they're doing, at least for the most part. The spoiler doesn't really perform any drastic cooling/heating or air intake at speed...not to mention literally NO downforce for the rear function - I tend to think of it as a gimmick, something "neat" to attract customers, but I may be wrong about that?

It's a "gadget" a "gimmick", whatever you wanna call it, but it works for whatever intention Porsche claims it does.

I took the silly thing OFF and added a tail that works WELL, provides more downforce and the vents/louvers are ALWAYS open...works like a champ.

Okay...as you guys on the "other side of the pond" would say - I'll grab my coat - here we go!

I think you are right, the spoiler does not provide downforce, but I don't think it has been advertised to do so. What it does do is destroy some of the lift at the rear of the car that is a natural result of its shape, and I do not doubt that it helps the car stay planted on the road. Sure, your wing may actually provide downforce, but that doesn't reduce the value of what the original SPOILER does for the car.

I wouldn't be surprised if Adrian had some numbers for this spoiler function, and its no doubt somewhere in the archives.

Ruf actually has a modified module for this, claims out at 120 km/h and back at 70 km/h (vs current 80 out 10 in). Part # for 964 through 1990 = R64 600 142 00 and <91 = R11 618 112 00.

I'm a little confused (as normal), but on my 91 C4, when I manually activate the spoiler, stays raised unless you lower it manually or turn the car off.
Does this mean that someone has upgraded the controller to 993 model?
