Default NEED FAN REPLACEMENT?

Pulling my recent c2 purchase apart today to start cleaning up the engine. Apparently the fan is coming apart like an onion. Are there any aftermarket improved options for a replacement?

I'm surprised nobody has made a reinforced plastic alternative.

Go factory they are the best alternative and are around $360 from Sunset. This is a result of improperly cared for fan. Proper care will guarantee a lifetime of performance.

That's easy......
when you have the motor torn down between races, check that the painted surface on the fan tips is in good condition. If not, apply paint. If painted, the mag will not corrode.

This may not apply to us non racers......

And I believe the new fan comes with a new bearing (mine did from Pelican). The bearing alone is about $120. So, it's a good value. It also helps clean-up the engine bay.

Clean occasionally and inspect for chips or damage. If the paint is chipped touch it up. The color is Zermatt silver but it does change to a pasty tan over time. Magnesium does not like moisture.

There are a number of variations listed in the PET

I believe this is without the bearing
http://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/oe...he/96410601540

and with
http://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/oe...he/96410601531

Not sure what this is but PET has it listed as a pre 92 impeller but I would call and ask about these part numbers and what the differences are.

If the bearing is shot than buy it already installed.

Thanks - I'm pulling my fan and having it refinished. On the front side I see no chipping. Back I do not know. Is proper paint or powder coat?

This might be one application where powder coating has its advantages. Should handle any abrasion from impacting debris better than paint. Just make sure it is applied evenly. You don't want to throw off the balance.

Thanks Cobalt. I didn't know they offer one without bearing. i believe my bearing is still good. no movement. I may just get the one with bearing already installed. after all, the existing bearing is probably 23 yrs old
