Default UK Cigarette lighter socket for charging

After having had my battery drain on me a few times I've just bought one of the Porsche battery maintainers which connect in through the lighter socket.

However, by default the UK 964's have the cigarette lighter not operational when the car is locked and keys out of ignition!

I know other people in the UK use these so how do I wire the cigarette lighter up so that I can maintain my battery in this way!

Iain, chop the end off, get a pair of conectors from an electronics store, and conect it directly to the battery!
I know you probabley don't want to mutilate your new toy but better that than your wirring loom

Andrew,
I sent a post on this a week or so back. Nobody mentioned mutilated wiring looms. General consensus was that these worked fine. Can you explain please.

Dave, my fault havent read your other post,

what I meant was that if the charger won't work through the lighter socket why not chop the conector off the charger and attach it directly onto the battery terminals
