What you found should be an EPROM which has a glass window for
erasing the code. The window should be under the label. The number
you provided is in the Bosch/Porsche EPROM series.
No Porsche DME units, a least none that I've seen, came with PROMs.
PROMs don't allow re-programming, i.e. There're one-time programming
devices. Also, they don't have windows for erasing.
There is no way to tell whether the EPROM chip in your car has the
stock 964 code or if it has been reprogrammed. The only way would
require that the code be compared with a stock code with the same
Bosch/Porsche number which involves reading it on a PC.
