Default Rev. limiter questions

Accidentally hit 7,200 rpms today in 2nd gear in 90 C2 trying to get around an SUV swerving around with driver on phone.

The car did not lag, stall, make any noises and kept pulling smoothly. I just took my eye off the tack for a few seconds and it was at 7,200 when I looked back down.

(1) What is the factory rev. limiter set at for a 90 C2 (my Ruf guages say 6,800)?

(2) Any idea if Ruf completely removes a rev. limiter from its chips (I have a ruf chip)?

(3) Is it possible that the rev. limiter is set at 7,400 or higher as it sure as heck did not kick in at 7,200?

(4) Can one just add a rev limiter to a Ruf chip without reprogramming any other information on the chip?

I would hate to blow a motor by not paying attention which can be easy to do in heavy traffic around here and trying to merge onto interstates.

I have a Ruf chip (which may/may not have been 'modified' by Tech9). It still has a rev limiter, but it's set at 7000.

Dear Doug,
Do you have a real RUF with RUF VIN or a number of conversion kits installed? Were these kits RUF installed (by Joe or another of the team)?
The rev limiter only works going up the gears. You say you accidently hit 2nd, this means you were changing down. I am afraid there is no limit for this.

Not a down shift, I was in second going slow and accellerated hard to get around someone and hit 7,200 before I shifted into third. Accenditally hit 7,200, not accidentallt hit 2nd.

You can't assume that the tach was correct. The extra 200
rpm is less than a 3% error for the tach which is about what
they have. The accuracy is not linear over the full range.
So if you are worried, get it calibrated at 7000 rpm.

Good Luck

I have to agree with Loren with tacho calibration and I would also have to question possibly the rpm input itself. Obviously from what you are saying the rpm rev limit in your system is higher than standard. Mine is standard but if you look closely at the tacho mine kicks in around 6850 to 6900 if you really stomp the foot. It will kick in closer to 6700 if you approach the limit more slowly. The system has a reaction time and we are not tlaking high speed digital links here. The tacho is electro-mechanical and it is the DME which does the limiting so the inaccuracy of the tacho and the mechanical lag is always going to make the indicated limit look higher. The fact that yours did not even kick in at 7200 rpm may mean your limiter has been disconnected. You will have to test this personally. Take it up in first or second and see what happens.
