New covers from Porsche (as of 2013) come finished in what looks an awful lot like satin black powder coat..

Magnesium is all about making sure you have a clean surface to begin with. Do not allow much time to sit exposed to the elements (high humidity will attack it quickly) so once you are done media blasting it and making sure it is clean these products do a great job at keeping them from corroding.
