AWD franken-car 964
I'm really excited to let you guys know about a build I recently started on a 964 C4. I've always loved the air-cooled cars and my first porsche was a 993C2S.
fast forward- having driven everything and now I have a few RS Americas and a project 964 C4. Having inquired on Singers etc I decided to do my own through my race shop and through my porsche engine builder in CA, BBi.
After a lot of debate and boredom around my race team's shop (CJ Wilson Racing in Austin, TX) we decided that doing a super lightweight C4 with ~450-550hp would be a long but rewarding journey. I have currently sourced 90% of the stuff via RL sales or sponsors which should make everyone feel good.
here's the story- I will update as often as necessary.
First step- project targets: 450-550HP, AWD, 2500lbs without driver.
2nd step: I searched and found a Guards Red 964 C4 donor car. This one took a few weeks but thanks to user dp35 's brother, I got eyes on the car and he test drove it. "some leaks but hey you know it's a 964"
the car had 100k miles on it with some light track mods. I made the seller an offer while I was at Pebble Beach and watching a 62k mile RS America cross the block for $120k. I knew it was a little rough but I'm not picky since it will be taken apart almost to the bare metal.
3rd step- deciding with my engine builder what the plan was. I had an old 993TT built by ANDIAL- 570hp on 91octane. Totally insane but that was my first track car. So, I started the reality check on what a twin plug 3.8L engine would cost and started window shopping for pistons, rods, turbos etc.
this is when it started to get wacky- a user on RL posted a 15k mile 997GT3 engine for sale.
So I called Betim at BBi and asked what it would cost to convert that engine for the chassis- "A hell of a lot cheaper than doing an Andial Clone build that's for sure!"
then I asked- "could we do a 4.0L conversion on that? and shoehorn it in there?"
YEP.
so- now we're going 500hp NA build on the 2500LB target weight. BBi is building the engine and will rebuild the stock drivetrain with racing synchromesh. CJWR will disassemble, paint, fabricate carbon panels, mount perspex side windows, rear windows etc.
Currently the car is at my shop in Austin and my crew is tearing it apart to get it ready for re-paint from Guards Red to Fashion Grey. Hopefully I can get you guys some scale readings and reports soon.
We started at 3064LB on the scales with some fluids still in the car.
MOD CHECKLIST (I will update)
Strip sound deadening (done)
Acquire drivetrain (paid, shipping next week)
Strip interior (in progress)
Build Integrated Roll Cage
redesign a minimalist interior that can be driven on the road (not bare metal)
Rebuild suspension- decide on 959 style rally car or RSR style track car
carbon body panels
carbon interior panels
sunroof delete with carbon roof skin
perspex windows
rewire harness to accommodate for deletion of non-essential items and 997 motor
mount rear decklid to accommodate 997 GT3 4.0L driveline
I will update with pics in the next posts.

+ 964 and can't wait. This thing will be badass. QUOTE=ilko;12757527]That's nice and all, but...
Sounds like a great project! Will you be using the G64 transmission? Any plans on that front?[/QUOTE]

I'll keep everyone posted. race team has an exciting announcement next week and then we will start posting more pics and hiring more people for stuff like this. I will get an approx cost structure together for the various phases because I think the Singer vehicles are incredible but I wouldn't personally pay that kind of coin for one.

This is awesome. My little 964 project will be very humble next to this one.
