They will have the part numbers on the back and the width and offset by the valve on the front

Yeah. Check in the tsb for the wheels. You can find that at pcar.com. I think maybe the parts catalog has it too.

Careful when you buy that the correct oem offsets for our cars are worth money. The wrong offset wheels aren't worth much. You see guys selling the versions that require spacers for the price of the correct ones...but 964 people are the only dummies spending up for cup 1's...so if you want the oem look, just do it right...

But I'm sure you know these wheels are crazy heavy and aren't very good in that regard...huge unsprung weight...I like them, but I got mine for 500 dollars before the price bounce. I would never pay what people are paying today. Jmho...if you find a set for under 1k, jump on them. But once it's over 1k, it's a tough one for me...you can still find sets of cup 2 for 500-700, and they are much lighter and a better wheel. Different look, and some don't like the later style on the car, but from a performance perspective they are better.

Mine were made by Speedline FWIW.

OEM and replica wheels look quite different, that's always been the giveaway for me. Here's OEM:

And replicas:

The spokes are very different, round on the OEM and straighter on the reps, and the bolt holes are larger on the reps, closer to the center caps.

Regarding prices, to each his own but they are well worth it to me for the period correct look even at today's prices. I've yet to see a wheel that looks better on a 964 than the OEM Cup 1.

Thanks Ilko, I am pretty good about spotting the replicas but I didn't know if there are some out there that look really close to the originals. Found a set online with just one photo so I need to make sure they are real. Of course I have no car to put them on yet!!! So I got that going for me.

Cup 1's fronts (7 x 17) = 9.3 kg
Cup 2's fronts (7 x 17) = 9.0 kg

Cup 1's rears (9 x 17) = 11.8 kg
Cup 2's rears (9 x 17) = 10.15 kg

Nominal difference in weight and not sure what you mean by a "better" wheel. IMO Cup 1's are the only way to go on 964's; hate the Cup 2's on 964's but love them on 993's.

The Borbet replicas are almost identical to the stock ones. Ilko's photo shows the Mille Miglia, made in Italy, versions. I mostly notice that the spokes are thicker.

If anyone has a single 9" rear Italian replica, I'm looking for one! I have an extra 7.5" front and a pair of 9" Borbet rears.

a thousand bucks would be a steal of a deal for a full set of authentic Cup 1 wheels.

Of all the Cup 1 replicas, Borbets are the heaviest, weighing in as follow:

7.5 x 17 fronts = 28 lbs (12.72 kg)
9.0 x 17 rears = 30 lbs (13.63 kg)

I would use these in a heartbeat...to anchor my boat

A great alternative to the OEM Cup 1 wheel is the OEM 996 17" 10 spoke wheel. Correct size/offset, great value, aesthetics and very light (8.2/9.5 kg).

There are a couple of versions.

From what i have observed to date:

Some Cup 1 wheels had the ET # on next to the stem.

Other Cup 1 wheels had no markings on the outside of the wheel, but they did have the part numbers on the inside.
There are two different types of interior spoke castings that i have seen which also makes it a little harder to understand.

chek out this thread that helped me discover that my spare wheels were real Cup 1 Wheels.

Here are some replicas that have been posted before. Widebody offsets. I think they would make a good spare set for my 993 C4S so long as they clear big red brakes. $400 CAD
Front wheels: 17 x 7.5 offset +23
Rear wheels: 17 x 9.0 offset +15

That looks to be the wrong photo. That's a 16 inch cup wheel for our car...I think...
