Engine just quit, ideas?
I was returning from a weekend trip yesterday, cruising about 75 on the interstate and the engine just died without warning. 750 mile trip, luckily only 35 miles from home. In the past year, I have done a full engine rebuild and replaced just about every maintenance item a 964 should ever need. I have put about 2,000 miles on it this summer.
I rolled to a stop and sat for a minute, and then it started up. Ran it for a couple of minutes and then pulled back out on the interstate and got up to about 65mph. Had gone maybe two miles and it quit again. As soon as I came to a stop, it fired right back up. This time it only got to about 40mph before it quit. Again it started up after coming to a stop. This time I limped about a mile down the shoulder to an exit and made it to a gas station. I called and got a ride home to pick up my truck and trailer to bring it home. It starts and idles fine now, but I haven't driven it anywhere.
It seemed to me like it was running out of gas. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter during the rebuild. I still have the filter and pump I took off, so I was going to start with replacing the filter and then the pump.
The unknown is it was raining very, very hard when it quit. Is there anything that the rain in the engine could have affected?

Will a DME relay fail then start working again? The one I have was new when I rebuilt the engine, was apparently working fine, just replaced for insurance.
I don't think it would have shown up after 5 hours on the interstate would it? Especially in 60 degree weather during a thundershower.

Not going to try it today though, still raining and I don't want to get stuck out.

Similar thing happened to me... Had it towed to the mechanic, on a morning on my way to work.
When he got it he said, I think it's the DME relay, I have one to test with. 30 mins later he calls me to confirm no issues on his relay and he got me one.
When he put the faulty one in my glove box he calls me to tell me I had a spare one. Felt pretty stupid.
Hey, drove for 3 years without needing it I forgot i had one.
Don't worry, only happens once.
