Scantool and Tore (www.bergvillfx.com) OBDI reader won’t connect
I recently bought to Tore one ODB interface with the 19 pin cable adapter and I cannot get it to work.
He is being kindly helping me, but maybe someone has a bright idea or an experience that can help me.
- Tried with 3 PC: 2 Windows 7 and one Windows XP.
- Loaded drivers correctly.
- Changed port on the scantool.ini file and copied it to the windows directory.
- Run the select car bath.
- Tried all the modules with no luck.
- Check with the teraterm tool to diagnose the communication and it was fine.
It’s a 1991 C2.
Is there any way to check if the “car side” is working properly (I mean, sending info)?
Any ideas or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Make sure fuse 12, for the diagnosis circuit is good.
Make sure ignition is to ACC position, (all the dash lights on, car not running)
Are you using Tore's 19 pin connector? Or some other version?

Then make sure the female sockets have enough compression on the male pins. If spread too wide the sockets won't make for an electrical connection. You can collapse the sockets by sticking a ice pick shaped pin between the socket and the plastic shell.
If you can't connect with any of the control modules, it's more than likely the gnd, 12v, "K", or "L" connection at the diagnostic plug.

Thanks for your king help.
Fuse 12 is OK, ignition is set to ACC position and I am using Tore’s 19 pin adaptor.
Checked the sockets and they seem to be OK.
No, I can’t connect to any of the modules: How can I check the diagnostic plug?

You can look for 12v at pin 12. Top pin on the left. If you have power there, the plug is probably not your problem. I would bet the software is not set up correctly.
Are you seeing lights on the T-OBD connector?

Pin 12 has 12V.
Lights on the adaptor turn on and flash when trying the connection.
Even tried the teraterm diagnostics tool that Tera suggest on the instructions that are on his web, getting a blue led inside to flash, but no connection to the car.
Windows driver seems to be OK, checked COM port, ….
Running out of ideas.

Me too frankly. Trying switching the COM port to a different one. I use COM 4.
Remember to change it in both places.
Did you copy the scantool.ini file into the windows folder on your C:\ drive ?

Hi MA7008O is the car in a working state and battery at least 12V? What are you trying to diagnose? Have you tried disconnecting the 964's battery for 30 seconds or so to hard reset the ECU before trying again.

Thanks verý much for all of your help and patience.
I did not change the port but tried with 3 different PC, so that should not be the question.
Always copied the scantool.ini file to the C\:windows directory, which is where is supposed to be, right? Just in case also copied it to the C\: dir, but no change.
The car is in working state and the battery has been charged. 12.14 volts with the key off and 11.80 volts with ignition on ACC.
I’m trying to diagnose idle problems and some misfiring around 4.000 RPM.
As for the ECU hard reset, just tried and nothing, no luck.
I’m going to try to take the car to the local Porsche dealer to see if they can connect to the car with their diagnostic tool and see what happens.

Thanks again for the help.
I removed the alarm module some time ago due to a failure and is not operative. Neither the immobilizer.
On the PC I see the red bar attempting to connect (while the red led inside the T-OBD tool flashes). No error message, it just keeps trying to connect forever.

My scantool.ini file is located in the same directory as the scantool.exe. I'd do a search on your HD to make sure you don't have multiple scantool.ini files with different configurations. FWIW, I'm using COM5 since all my other ports were in use. If you're using a USB to Serial dongle make sure it's configured for the same COM port that is in the scantool.ini.
Another thing to check is that your scantool.cfg file has the same contents as scantool_964_cfg.txt. For example, the scantool.cfg file should show baudRate=8800 in the [Motronic] section. Good luck!

I just come back from the dealer, where they were able to diagnose the car with no issues (neither with the OBD diagnose tool or with any codes).
Therefore, the OBD diagnosis on the car is fine. Any ideas as to what many be wrong with Tore’s T – OBD?
Thanks again for the help. Very much appreciated!!!
