Street/track tire selection: Pilot Super Sport? If so, what size?
I'm currently running 17x7 front and 17x9 rears on my C2 with 225/45 and 255/40 tires. I am trying to pick out a set of tires that will provide good track capability for events at Sebring, etc. The consensus from Rennlist searches is that the Nitto NT-01 would be a great solution, but I'm worried those will not provide adequate wet performance should I get caught in the rain, which is a common occurrence in Florida. So now I'm thinking about the Michelin Pilot Super Sport (MPSS) because I have them on my 997 Turbo and they are great.
Problem is Michelin doesn't make the tire in a 255/40, so I'm trying to figure out what size I should go with. They offer a 215/45 and 245/40 which are both 24.7" in diameter or I could do a 225/45 and 245/40 combo, but the 225 would be .3" taller at 25" in diameter.
Anyone running these on a 964? What sizes make the most sense?
Thanks for the help.
Mike

I have Pilot sport 255/40 on the back of my car. Don't have super sports yet...they are next when these wear out. I wasn't aware they didn't make the same sizes they made in the previous pilot sport...
As to Sebring in the rain. Yes if it rains you need good water dispersion for the old runways...

You have a lot of choices in the Extreme Performce category beyond the Michelin SS.

Not sure if this link will work but it is a Tire Rack search for 225/45-17 and 255/40-17.
You may have to select the Performance Category filter.
The NT-01 is a great track tire, but the caution about wet conditions is valid. I am looking to replace my NT-01's right now with a true street tire. I have used two sets of the Yoke AD-08 on my Cayman, and those are a very good dual purpose tire, but for ultimate lap time, at least for AX, the Bridgestone RE-71R is the top of the current heap.

I'm not breaking any lap records so I don't mind not having the ultimate in grip, but I would like something in the better end of the spectrum. I pla to drive it on the street as well so that's where I was referring to encountering rain. I hope I don't have to run Sebring in the wet.
Anyone running a 215 front 245 rear?

I am running the Pilot super sport with size 215/45 and 245/40 on 7" & 9" Cup 1 rims.
Performance wise nothing to worry. I only don't like the appearance of 245 tyres fit on a 9" rim. Other than that, perfect. The tyres are cheap and good performance.

The PSS is a great tire. I haven't had it on my 964, but on other track/daily driven cars.
Another consideration should be the Yokohama AD08R - I think it is a great all-round tire, better in the dry than the PSS, but a little less so in the wet.

Also look into Nitto NT-05s. I used them in wet and dry track days in my Z06. Surprising amount of grip in wet (heavy rain, standing water). They wear well, too. About 15 track days in a Z06. I ran them at full tread depth when new.

Why not use Michelin PS2 in the OEM size? Have the on my blue car and was on wet nordschleife two weeks ago. Great response, no problems in dry conditions with overheating them...

I would remove the Nitto NT-01 from the list. Great R compound tire for the track but you really wouldn't want to get caught in a sudden FLA. deluge. Pretty bad water displacement trend pattern. I'm running Michelin SS for Cayman presently as a dual purpose street/track tire. Great street manners in wet and dry. Found them to be descent as a track tire.
