Yes, unfortunately the slope is slippery. It is definitely a disease that I have not found the cure. Now I am having them split the case, I am installing a new oil cooler, new thermostat mechanism, lots of other new parts. Soon there will be nothing left to replace.

Sorry Duck! In the long run it will be worth it, these are special cars.
If the rebuild drags on, feel free to come by and I'll remind you why these cars make sense.

Thanks 911Jetta. I hope to get up to CH sometime in the near future. I am going to Burlington for work next Thursday, so will probably stop in to see the progress on the rebuild. Also they have some nice rides to look at.

So I spoke with shop today. Heads have been sent to California for machining. Tentative time is 4 weeks. They will be opening the case and starting the internal case work. So far, I have 2 cracked exhaust valves.
Did confirm that they will be using the 993TT studs.

Curious why CA. for machining? If your happy with results please share here or PM who did your machining since I am in CA. I'll tuck away for use some day.

Not sure the shops name - will find out. European Performance used to use a local shop for machining but had poor results. They say the shop they use now in CA is very good, but lead time is 4 weeks.
Thanks.

Well after a long time away from Porsche driving, I am finally back on the road. Engine sounds good and feels strong.
Now have to address some rattles and wind noise with the new hardtop.
