Best is a very nondescript term - best as in max power, reliability, value for money ...

It would be nice to hear a few German names too.

No one has pushed air cooled technology like Colin Belton at 9m, just look at his website for all the proof you need. I don't think there is any engine configuration he hasn't designed, built, tested and then improved upon!
Nick at red-tek gets the award for the nicest guy though!

I disagree whole heartedly. There are many pioneers in air-cooled innovation and development.

Off the top of my head,
- Jeff at Rothsport
- Chris at Turbo Kraft
- Promotive Turbo
- Nick at RedTek
- Neil at BS Motorsport
etc etc etc

Each of these outfits develop and produce their own parts and are constantly innovating. That list I've written is a who's who of just some of the absolute best air cooled builders in the world.

A select group who are most likely factory trained having spent time in the race department who then went on to build championship and race winning engines ....there will be more than a few in the Deutschland at a guess although many will be retired by now....

To be fair Frank most of your list aren't even in Europe so weren't included in my initial post as it's not what the op asked and the last time I was at red tek Nick wasn't exactly manufacturing his own parts etc as for bs motorsport Ive never dealt with them so can't comment. I do agree there are many other pioneers of air cooled technology but to dismiss Colin as one of them is just a bit blinkered. Have you had a bad experience with Colin at some point?! Don't get me wrong on Nick he did the majority of my engine work!

Kremer, RS Tuning and Roitmayer to name a few. I'd be amazed if Manthey can't screw an aircooled motor together properly.

May as well chuck Almeras into the mix as well.

Surprised not to see Tuthill mentioned. They've damn near perfected the 3.0l race engine.

My point was that 9M are not the ONLY experts in air cooled innovation and manufacturing.

I never dismissed them, just added other names that innovate and manufacture also.

In the case of RedTek they make their own stuff like many. Cams, do all their own machining (for many engine builders round the country too), and have been developing their own flat slides for example.

I believe there is no singular best engine builder - it's subjective. There are many great builders, and you just pick the one that happens to work for you. So many ways to skin a cat and all that.

I'm just thankful for the many outfits that we have the luxury of having at our disposal that innovate in niche air cooled performance.

Cheers,

... and suspension - you can actually ring Bilstein in UK and request revalved dampers to Tuthill spec for G series. Autofarm is also up there (Nick @ RedTek used to work there) - ok they get dissed a bit for prices but I hear since new management take ever in 2015 from Josh they are getting their form back ... also heard a lot of good things about Phil @ Tech 9 (I love his 911SCR http://www.tech9.ms/car-sales/porsch...fia/htp-papers)

..... while all 3 have very strong history with aircooled Porsche they seem to fly under the 964 radar who favour the newer kids on the aircooled block, wonder if its due to habit or form!
