Help with headlight project
I have been working on retrofitting a pair of H5 headlights and have been unsuccessful in separating the lens from the housing. I have followed a couple of traditional methods such as repeated baking the headlights at 200 degrees Celsius and even soaked them in gasoline (solvent) but fear any stronger solvent may breakdown the housing itself. Has anyone separated a lens successfully and if so what was your method.

Sorry, I haven't done it but am curious what your ultimate goal is? If you need a stock looking lens that you can easily change, the H4's are a better choice. They also have a better light pattern in my opinion. I have "upgraded" both of my cars from H5 to H4 with relays and high wattage bulbs.

Rob, thanks - I am trying to retrofit a set of projectors. I know most use H4 as the housing and lens are separate, but the H5 has a full chrome reflector in the housing vs the H4. Looking to try something similar to singer-esque but have it all housed in the light housing. If my idea works I'll be sure to show and tell with the RL community.

Update
Well I baked again at 215 Celsius for 20 min and pryed the lens off...the sealant is more of a rubber than the buytl used in today's lights. Unfortunately the housing became brittle and cracked and chipped in multiple places around where the glass and housing marry. Now that I have it apart I can work out some ideas but need to find a better method for splitting the H5 open.

I will take some photos of the reflector for you and try to get them posted tonight. IMHO the h5 housing and reflector are the nicest...metal support frame and full chrome reflector....only if I could source them without a lens.
