So the car is onto phase 2 now which is getting it a little more track focused, I have a c2 to a mix of rs and cup spec. Fully rebuilt, balanced and ported etc with cup cams and still running standard intake and rev limit. I need an idea of what ratios to use to get a good improvement on a variety of tracks. The car does see a lot of road use so don't want to change 5th too much. I know what I want is always going to be a compromise but oh well. Help pls! Jim.
What gearbox is in the car right now? There were several different type numbers used on the various 964s over the years. If we have a solid starting point, we can best guide you. Redline RPM, rear tire size, and an idea of your power curve/how the car is cammed for performance always help as well.
Thanks for the replies. The car has a g50 03 I believe, standard row c2. Standard rev limit which I think is 6700. The engine is totally fresh, gas flowed and balanced with a standard intake and cup cams. 255 rear tyre size on cup ones. The cams have moved the power up a bit which has highlighted the leggy gearing. Which I thought the weight loss would have made up for but I think a new gear set will really wake the car up.
I do use the car on the road a bit so don't want it to be revving it's nuts off at highway speeds but the car was built with track days in mind. I am aware there will be a compromise. I had thought about making 1st and 2nd a bit taller and bringing fourth shorter but have no practical experience as to what this will mean in the real world!
150 is the max for any of the tracks around me, thanks for looking into this for me!
Here's a friends breathed on 964RSA w/ g50/30, not much to be done w/ 1-3 you could shorten 4 & 5 a bit to close them up on 3 a little more, most tracks 3 & 4 are the go to gears sometimes 5 if it's shortened to 150 top
