Default Help requested on installing Porsche CD-10

Guys,

I have recently purchased a Porsche CD-10 head unit. I was thinking this will be a straight forward install, but I have come to realise that this is not going to be the case

The radio came without a trim ring, but luckily this is still carried by Porsche so I managed to get one for 50 euro (Ouch!!)

Now my next problem is that it seems like I need an amplifier for this unit? Can anyone confirm this?

I would also greatly appreciate advice/links towards the correct plugs for this unit.

I pulled the CD-2 (I think) out of my 89 and the connections were the same as on the back of your CD-10. In my case it was wired in with an amp under the passenger seat. I don't have the wire to connect it up, but if you are looking to go with something stockish you can have mine for the price of shipping from US.

Thanks for the offer! Let me know how much shipping would be to the Netherlands.

with regards to the wiring, I am going to my local audio specialist tomorrow and I have a couple of questions pending with ebay vendors.

That looks identical to the original CD2 that came in my car as well, maybe they just gave it a different name in Europe?

Yes you'll need an external amp. I use a Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 compact amp that fits nicely under the passenger seat which is easy to hook up and is a much better amp than the original Blaupunkt that came with car from factory. Also the round 8 pin black connector at the back of the deck is the external output to the amp. Should have an external 8 pin din connector harness/wire, but if you don't or can't find one, you may be able to connect each individual output (see pic) using a wire with the right gauge. For the white rectangular connector on the side you can use electrical crimp connectors.

I am making some progress.
- I have managed to unlock the unit, it took a couple of tries, but at least I know it powers up.
- I have found a frame that will allow me to mount the unit into the dash. The frame that came with it was for a different brand of raio all together, so that was never going to work.
- I have found a small High input amp that I hope I will be able to mount under the dash. If not it will go under the passenger seat.
- The din plug is on order. The cable to link the CD-10 to the amp wil be made up as soon als the plug arrives.

One disapointment though is that there is a CD stuck in the unit and it will not come out. Neither will the CD play. So I guess that once I have it all working I will send the CD-10 off to be refurbished.

If anyone has tips on doing the refurbishment of the CD player by myself I would love to hear them.
