Default Valve cover cover

Soon I'm going to be replacing my leaky valve covers. There is a fiber glass box around them. My engine pan has been removed by the PO. Is it ok if I remove that box? Or is it there for a reason?

They're head shields to keep the exhaust heat away from the engine. I would leave them on

I keep them on too, especially as it protects the plug wires from the hot cat.

Yep, what they said. The hot part of the exhaust is exposed when the undertray is removed anyways, you won't get it much cooler with those fiberglass covers off.
