Default Could use some encouragement...

These cars are getting old! 210 K miles...

I have my C4 up on stands and its beginning to be a long time between drives. I started with a RnR of the oil tank, and supply lines. Glad I did it, as the long braided line that goes to the thermostat from the oil filter console literally shattered into pieces when it was flexed... 4 individual pieces... so that wasn't going to last long.

Next is all the short rubber lines from the tank to the car... waiting on a pair of those rubber bushing standoffs that mount the tank to the body.

I also went after all the oil leaks that have popped up.. so new valve cover gaskets, timing chain, tensioner and oil rerouting gaskets/ O rings...

I already have lower billet covers, but the uppers are showing a lot of magnesium rot... so I need to find some newer ones... (if anyone has a pair please let me know...)

While you're in there... valve adjust and scrubbing scrubbing scrubbing.

Powder coated the tins... addressed some rust...

and finally noticed that 3/8 of my rubber CV boots are destroyed... so new boots coming up all around - ick.

After all that, I still need to chase down that low level battery drain.

Just feeling a bit $ tapped out and it feels like a long trail back to ->

Couldn't do it without Steve at Rennsport...

You'll forget all about that as soon as you drive it.

Mine needs a little love, but it's an old car, goes with the territory. I enjoy working on cars, motorcycles, and bikes. If you think about how old our 964s are now, it's amazing how well they have withstood the test of time.

Tom - We all understand. For me, working on the cars is as equally fun as driving them. With an "old" car, you get to do more maintenance but I also find it rewarding to make things new again. I worked on mine a lot over the winter. Now that the snow (and road salt) is gone, I have them out. It feels great to be driving the 964s again.

Tom - I know how you are feeling, a couple years ago I had the same feeling with my car. I felt "behind"...

A valve adjustment was coming up, plus some other work, and even though I had already researched every step I just didn't have the energy to do it. Family commitments, worrying about doing something wrong and intense garage summer heat meant all the fun in the project was gone and maybe a signal to move on to a new "hobby"? With the hunger to "learn and DIY", I was putting unrealistic pressure on myself.

I gladly sent the car off for a full service... it's been two years since with nothing but oil changes and tires since. 2 years!

Oh no valve adjustment time is coming around again...

Hang in there chap. Most of us have had one or more of these extended dry dock refits, you can't short cut them, just dig in, take names and kick bottom

Tom. Put it back together and drive it for the summer. You've done a lot. Enjoy it and start up again next winter.

Don't give up. It's the best bucket of bolts you'll ever have .

Have to agree with the others. Was a slightly long winter and got delayed with some projects, but that first drive was well worth it.

Envision a life with a Toyota (or any brand you're not emotionally attached to and functions like an appliance)... pretty grey life, no?

The eternal pursuit of happiness... takes you under a 964 at times and behind the wheel at other times.

They don't call this a passion for nothing! Just hang in there and it'll be rewarding in the end. If you need any help with any of this stuff feel free to let us know!
