Wink Steering Rack Plug

On a 1989 964 their is a Steering Gear rack Plug on the 911 Carrera 2/4 (1989-94), will this let the rack drain the the power steering fluid out of the rack ? Thanks Vernon.

I do not believe so. You have to pull the return line and pour fluid into the reservoir while turning the steering wheel back and forth to flush the system. It is a real chore, and really requires two people...although it doesn't push the fluid out too fast, so you could probably do it by yourself. Just make sure you don't run the reservoir empty. CHF11s is the spec fluid.

The plug covers the opening that is used to precisely center the rack. If fluid is coming out of that opening you have a very leaky rack that needs to be replaced. Ask me how I know!
