Hello Guys

Have sent my new car on service/check up, so I have to settle with the manual for now. I'm trying to encode the options list, and started to wonder if this car has a lsd. The transmission code says:

G5003– 1L

Isn't that the 40% lsd?

The code you quoted is probably not an option code, but possibly a part number for the type of gearbox you have. ie. G50 "03-1L"

Normally the options are three digits listed under 'Optional Equipment', and I wasn't aware that the lsd-option was listed next to the transmission code, but after skimming through the 964 facts page in Peter Morgans book 'Original 911' it seemed (it was a bit hard to decode exactly what he was writing, hence my post) like an lsd should be listed after the gearbox-type number, and 1 meant the 40%, 2 the 20-100% RS-lsd and 0 meant no lsd.

Any thoughts?

I forget off the top of my head which code is the LSD but I am sure that it isn't that (at least on my car). If you search the archives for codes you should find a post that I submitted that should have it.

It's highly unlikely that a 1990 C2 came with an LSD, even for a 1991.

You see more of these in 1992 and later with an M030 option.

This doesn't mean you don't have one!

You can always jack the rear of the vehicle up, taking both tires off the ground and turn one, the other should turn in the same direction.

Of course, the option codes may be a quicker way to tell, but I'm from the state above the "show me state" on the map, so I have inherited that attribute from being "neighbors".

I installed my own LSD.

Seems strange to me that a LSD was not/is not standard on all 911s. My 1987 E30 M3 has one...

The option code for my 84 Carrera was 220.
But what is Morgan blabbering about in his book?
If anyone have it, read the section 'Manual Gearbox' in the bottom of page 108.

Lucky me! I've got a '91 with factory LSD. Although I don't think I had the M030 pkg. If I did it's laying in box in the garage!

just did quick check on the options, on my 1991 C2 the locking differential is code 220, get these codes from the sticker under the front hood. Sadly no M030 option, anybody want to buy a set of US only springs and shocks?..cheap?...

I've got a '90 C2 with factory 40% LSD, but can't remember the option codes off the top of my head. The gearbox no. sounds right for the LSD - I'll check when I get home and let you know.

by the sounds of it... my '90 Cab with LSD is a very rare combo then. 220 is the code that I have too.

Finally found the definition of the gearbox codes in my Tech Spec booklet (a very handy little item originally issued by Porsche to their OPC workshops). Anyway, the code is as follows:

Example G5003 2 L 01324

G5003 is the gearbox type
2 is the differential type
L is the model year (for 89-91 : K,L,M. 92 onwards always 0)
01324 is the serial no.

Gearbox types are:

G6400 - C4 manual with PSD
G6401 - C4 manual with PSD - Swiss version
Z6400 - C4 front final drive
G5003 - C2
G5004 - C2 Swiss
G5010 - RS + Cup
A5001 - Tip
G5052 - Turbo manual

and diff types are:

0 - without diff (???)
1 - normal diff
2 - ZF LSD (option M220)
3 - controlled LSD (PSD)
4 - 40% LSD for RS
