Default Hall Sensor -> Check Engine Light

Hi y'all!

Does the Hall Sensor trigger the CEL?

Thanks Christoph

It did for me. You'll get various opinions though. "Oh the Hall Sensor never fails". Mine did. I replaced the dizzy with a used one as I had a difficult time find a stand-alone Hall Sensor replacement part. Once installed my CEL and limp mode problems went away.

FWIW, Hall Sensor does indeed trigger a CEL on a 993. Based on my research, it's similar on a 964.

Same situation as the Stig. Needed to get a new dizzy since hall sensors are not available standalone in this part of the world.

Thank you for your answers!
So here is some "information" I gathered.
Apparently there is a Hall Sensor available for a later 911 that fits the 964.Unfortunately I couldn't figure out which one yet.
There also seems to be a company in Germany that has a hall sensor available that fits the 964.

I will keep you posted on my outgoing.
Although that will take at least 6 weeks as our cars go into the container heading for Germany next week.
If one of the above mentioned options works I'd be happy and glad to send those parts out to you my american friends as I don't want to have anybody replacing the whole dizzy just because of a couple dollar part that failed.

Cheers Chris

I bought a hall sensor from a company in Germany - Chen Yang Technologies Gmbh. Their part number is CYHME56C and it cost 12.50 euro. My indy fitted it to the dizzie for me as it's a tricky job to remove the old one and you need to re-use the existing plug for the three wires. i.e. you need good electrical engineer skills which I don't have.

I don't have a CEL on my UK car but was getting constant stalling and it felt down on power. A Hammer diagnosed a hall sensor failure. All the problems disappeared after fitting the new sensor and the car has run beautifully ever since.

Hey Boxsey!

I already marked the thread were you talk about the "german" sensor with 5 stars, as it seems to be a very valuable input.
The funny thing about it is the company name..
Chen Yang is not the most common name in the country.

As soon as I have my car out of the container in Germany I will rebuild the dizzy and change the sensor.
I really hope that that will be the final fix.

My car certainly developed a serious condition.
So far driving was no issue, despite the CEL light.

My car had the two following messages:

Hall sensor and injector #3

Up to now I have already changed all injectors.
When we drove the car fown to Savannah things got really serous as the car randomly stalled for mybe a tenth of a second also the christmas tree lid up many many times, never longer than perhaps for a half second.
What the hell is going on there?
Can all that really happen because if a faulty halls sensor??

I need to wait for several weeks to receive the cars here in Germany.

Sounds like a faulty coil.

Also check your distribute caps and rotors. I once replaced mine with beru instead of Bosch caps and rotors (only slightly better), and they cracked and the glue holding the posts in broke loose and this all caused similar issues. But...sounds like a coil failure.

Also give a quick check on your grounds. Pull them off and clean them. If they get rusty, it exacerbates the problems....

Then after all this, then go to the hall sensor...

Exactly the same symptoms as mine when the hall sensor went bad. I found that by unplugging the sensor it would drive without cutting out albeit that it felt down on power at the top. It's an easy thing to try. Give it a go.

-Update-

I finally managed to visit the people at Chenyeng today and I have to say that I am throroughly impressed by them.
They invited me into their offices, offered me free coffee and supplied the much needed sensor immediately.
All happened without having any kind of appointment.
To top my shortcomings I even didin't have the necessary part number.
But even that didn't cause a problem as they just simply let me use one of their desktop PCs.

@Boxsey:

Thank you mate for pointing these guys out, you saved some serious money!

Hi Boxsey,
how did you manage to seperate the two discs where the hall sensor is mounted?
I drilled out the rivet but that didn't help...

Cheers Chris

Just tagging onto the post-I have had a a hall sensor fault via Scantool info for around 2 years and though when running the car is fine I feel I have a flat spot coming off idle.
I have checked all the sensors are working crank angle oxygen etc and even changed the hall sensor for a spare I have.
Overall the car seems fine but would love to get rid of the fault from the scantool

How would you have changed the hall sensor?
